My Maltese had two ear infections due to hair growth in the ears. I guess it's a judgement call. |
I've only ever plucked one of my dogs ears (border collie-years ago), but he managed to fill his ears with soil, and I do mean fill. It took ages to clean out, I plucked his ears for a few months as he had issues for a short while.( he had vet treatment also) After reading here, it seemed if most plucked their yorkie, so when at the vets we asked their advice and they said not too, the dogs didn't need it or unless it was something we really wanted to do. I got the feeling they thought it was more of a fashion fad, when it's not needed. |
My vet told me I need to pluck Callie's ear hair and that I also need to clean them weekly. Callie will grow very thick ear hair but my moms rescue almost grows none. It is not supposed to hurt them and Callie does not act like it hurts her at all. My vet said the ear hair can hold onto moisture that can cause ear infections and yeast infections. I imagine it's even more important if they have floppy ears that get less air like my baby. |
Ok I will see what happens when I stop. If anything bad happens I will start back up again. He has a tendency to scratch his ears so bad when I pluck them that his ears bleed. |

Ok. what ingredients is in the ear cleaner? Im using burt's bees dog cleaner, and it has all natural ingredients in it accept for the alcohol. I haven't had any problems with it yet, but I just started using it. |
