I'm not saying that I agree with what is happening in this, but the reality is that currently the government CAN do this to your dog.

why cant they just do a titter test to confirm he still has rabies vac in his system. so redic to do that to poor simon for three week lapse and no contact.

Since a dog with rabies will die after 10 days in quarantine, I don't get the 6 month imposition. I would be fighting it.

I will add that even a one day lapse in my state requires you to use a one-year rabies shot. Some of these rules seem very arbitrary.

agreed I would be calling every single newspaper anyone who would listen to me. im so upset and hes not even my pooch. poor thing I hope they can get it overturned.

Well even though I think it's ridiculous the law there is clear and he didn't vaccinate his dog! He has himself to blame.

I know but life happens it wasnt 6 months...sometimes we screw up but why should the poor baby have to pay. :(

It can take up to six months after exposure to show symptoms. I don't believe a skunk spray should warrant this (humans get sprayed, too!), but the law is clear and rabies is incredibly dangerous. As with other diseases that we have vaccines for I would guess a high titer could be from a vaccine OR exposure to rabies itself.

Point is, if you choose not to vaccinate you are playing with fire.

Ummmm because his owner didn't comply with the law and he lives with that irresponsible person instead of someone else. Life does happen, and some dogs are luckier than others.

It\'s because there was a possible exposure to a skunk and the vet was required to report it to Animal Control. If the animal was able to be captured and tested there wouldn\'t be an issue with the lapse. If it were the other way around and the dog would have bit a human then the quarantine if different.

That poor, poor pup! I can\'t imagine what he\'s going through--he\'s done nothing wrong! This is so sad. Regardless of whose fault it is this poor pup is going to pay for it. :(:cry::cry8:

Ridiculous. It was only a 3 week lapse. You\'d think it was a year. Sadly, people read this story and become fearful of seeking professional help. This person didn\'t have to take his dog to the vet, there are remedies all over the internet for skunk odor removal, but he did because he cared, and wanted to be safe. Some help he got.:thumbdown
