Glad to hear the guy's been reprimanded officially. I'm actually really shocked that the dog wasn't impounded for lack of rabies shots. Aren't most biting incidents without benefit of immunization treated as possible spread of disease? Or would he have to have bitten you to have that happen? :( Either way the dog should've been kept under observation for a time, or was this done and I missed it? Bless you and your furbabies. I hope that you will be able to put this completely behind you soon. Thinking of you. |
Oh Mike I'm just reading this and can't tell you how upsetting it is and I just can't imagine all the emotions you must have had charging in when this happen, and all you and Lucy have been going through since, even now! I'm shocked that nothing was done to the owner or the Pit. Please know Lucy is in my prayers. |

Poor Lucy! How is she doing now? It is a shame that the dogs owner acted that way he should be ashamed of himself. If a dog is mean it should be kept on a short leash and far away from other dogs and people. |

When we go swimming and I go with all three, I set up two crates, and then have one dog out at a time, for the swimming. I usually get there early so I can set up under a tree by the waterfront beach. Then when each one swims I am literally only 20 steps or so away from the crates. It is a tad time consuming but everyone comes home exhausted and happy to be out 1/2 day or more. I am thinking of a Zanotti for when I get my next van, this is a gizmo air conditioner that you can have the air on in the car when it is not running. I am happy to hear that at least there were some consequences for the owner of the pitbull. For me though it is has been English Bulldogs. Magic has been "charged" twice by them, and now he has a decided grudge against them. I was in an Emergency hospital once with Magic, and one Bulldog dragged his owner halfway across the waiting room floor to get to Magic. Magic was not happy about that, I exited the waiting room, wasn't going to wait around to see if the owner got his bulldog under control:eek: Heres hoping for a pleasant fun filled summer for you and your beasties:) |
I just finished the long blog of the attack and resolution, but YT says it's too long so I can't post that. But to those of you who offered support and advice, here's what resolution came of it: Lucy healed and was just starting to go on walks again when her cancer struck in a big way and we had to put her down. I was devastated that her final days were filled with so much pain, but she truly made it easy on me. She loved her walks right up until the end and never showed any fear. I sent a long letter to the attacker and his wife, detailing all my evidence and telling them they could avoid court if they paid me the $1,800-plus in vet bills, which I included. I gave them almost a month to comply. On the very last day, I was stunned: A check for the full amount and what came close to an apology. It was from the wife, who evidently had a heart and a brain. Their dog was issued a Level II citation from the city, meaning significantly safety measures and no more long leashes while it is in effect. I don't consider it a victory because of all the pain Lucy had to go through, but knowing her, she'll rest in peace knowing she got a little justice in the end. |
I am so sorry for your loss of sweet Lucy. |
Oh no, I am so sorry for your loss. I'm going to miss seeing sweet Lucy in your videos. |
I am so sorry. RIP Sweet Lucy. |
I'm so very sorry for your loss of lil Lucy. Good to hear your got some sort of restitution for that attack. |
I am sorry to hear of your loss and am glad Lucy got to enjoy her walks to the very end. You're a good dog papa  |
Mike, I am so sorry Lucy had to deal with the suffering from the attack in what turned out to be the last months of her life. She was a sweet girl, and so brave, and is free of pain and suffering now. I hope you and your wife will find comfort in the coming days, and cherish all the good memories of you girl. Rest in Peace Lucy, you will long be remembered and loved by many who came to know you through Yorkie Talk. |
So sorry to hear about Lucy:(. She was so cute and sweet the few times I've seen her at the park. She was one tough pup:) |
Mike, I am glad that your family did get some justice. Hugs and I am so sorry about Lucy's illness and passing. |
anytime i go to town stitch is with me, my daughter is about the graduate and well to put it bluntly stitch has kinda become my kid lol. i get teased alot about it, but thats how it is. she makes me happy and the only time another dog has went after her in town was similar, luckily being in a wheelchair my arm rests are removable and i clubbed it, it was a pit mix and was being egged on by kids, make sure you can protect yourself as well, the 5 teenage boys decided to get rowdy n threaten me etc and decided maybe that wasnt the best idea once they realized i was armed. they wanted to see the dogs fight but when a human intervened they wanted to avenge their dog. thats how they explained it to the police. i wasnt charged for assaulting the dog, or brandishing my pistol. i showed it to diffuse the situation, they were cited for no leash, only cause their parents were called, and i gotta say they might have preferred jail that night. 2 of the fathers were veterans also. me and the cops agreed they were gonna learn their lesson, but they each had 40 hours of community service, all finished it except the dogs owner, he wound up in felony trouble a few days later. just remember when u protect your pet, the other animals owner might attempt to hurt you in their misguided attempt to protect theirs. make sure you can protect both yourself and your pet..... |
