Sorry Mike. I noticed the RIP a few weeks back???? I was afraid to ask, thought I missed a posting. Looked at your writings and first vid at the airport back then, quite a journey! Take solace in knowing you did very well by her. The attack is just one of those unforeseen events that can occur when giving a dog an active life. We can't just lock em up, they'd miss just too much of life.

So sorry about your lose of Lucy -- you can be proud that you gave her the best life possible.

The fact that you persevered and persisted with your action against the humans who had no compassion for others was a lesson they apparently (though reluctantly) learned. Most of us believe that was a lesson that was important. It may not change their maturity or change their empathy, but they got a dose of responsibility.

Lucy was special is so many ways. How wonderful that you had her in your life!

Mike I'm so sorry for your loss of dear Lucy, I know that it is a no comfort that the other people eventually paid for the vet bill due to the attack, but hopefully they will not let their dog do this again.
Lucy had the best of care from you and was with her loving family to the end.

So sad reading this thread, am very wary of letting Crystal run on the beach and pick some odd times to do it, I also have a defence 'method' with me at all times. Personally I think these hideous breeds should be deliberately extincted - they're not pets, they're weapons for sick sad people, who should probably go the same way too - at least in my world they would.:mad:

Mike I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sorry I just saw your post. Lucy was a fighter and now she can rest. I'm glad you got a sliver of justice regarding her attack. It certainly wasn't the outcome I know you and everyone hoped for. You certainly stood your ground for your amazing girl.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss of Lucy. No matter what the cause, it's always is hard to loose a loved one.


We used to walk daily but it has dwindled down out of fear of being attacked. When we do walk, we have a cane and pepper spray ( which I am hesitant to use) and I plan on purchasing an air horn as well...and we have buddy belts so I can get the boys up.


How sad that we have to go through all of that for a simple walk.

Thank you all for the kind words. I almost didn't announce her passing formally here because I was still processing it myself, and her passing seemed incomplete with the attacker not taking responsibility.

But it helps that they admitted liability, and it helps that the wife, at least, said she was sorry it happened to Lucy. I think I can finally move on and try to let go of the bitterness that's been in me for the last 5 1/2 months.

Your kind words are helping with that. Thank you.

I am so sorry to hear of Lucy's passing especially with cancer. This hits home for me as I have a Lab/Chesapeake with melanoma cancer and I just found out today that it has moved to her lungs. She doesn't have long but is holding on. If your Lucy was anything like my Jasmine then we are both very very blessed.

Mike you're such a great guy, and you didn't deserve what happened to you and Lucy. I can imagine it's difficult to let go of the anger that you feel towards that shameless man. I'm glad his wife did at least acknowledge he was in the wrong and that she was sorry.
If and when you feel like it, do you think you would be able to post some pictures of Lucy throughout her life? I know everyone would love to see some pictures of her growing and becoming the wonderful pup she was. It may help you too.

Aww, thanks. I will post some of my favorite pictures of Lucy and let you know where to find it. An excellent professional pet photographer photographed her a week after the attack and got some very moving pictures. I'm told she's going to be featured in his new book on senior dogs coming out in December. I'll have to post the book display as well. Thanks again for the kind words.

I am deeply sorry for all that you and Lucy went through and for your loss. You are a strong, loving advocate for your pups. They are so lucky to share their lives with you.
