| Donating YT 3000 Club Member | This was a one time thing . . Short version . . he was left with a friend who didn't brush him. He had a bunch of mats and had to be shaved. The first and last time he is getting that cut . .sorry

| Donating YT 3000 Club Member | It got cut . . She wasn't suppose to . I wanted to keep the hair long. It doesn't bother his eyes that way. Now that it is growing out it gets in his eyes. I would leave it

Oh I do have to tell you that even though I hated cutting his coat it was really nice that his puppy coat was gone. His adult coat is so much easier! lol

| There is a link on here with all the different yorkie cuts, but I can't post it on my iPad, this thing is so limited.

| I have kept Prince in a modified Schnauzer coat for the last few years....finally, I shaved him down the other day...all but his face. His hair hasn't been this short since I got him....but he's older and he gets hot so I just wanted to make him as comfortable as possible. IMO, a 10 blade is going to be VERY short on a yorkie. I used to use a 10 blade on my cocker, but her coat was very different than a yorkies coat. I have a little 8 blade that I use to trim my boys feet and bum area and that is pretty short....about as short as a 10 blade was on my cocker. I believe my mom's groomer uses a 7 on her boys...and they have a buzz cut. They have really short hair and their bodies look like fat little chi's. They are totally shaved down...face and all. I used a 4 clipper blade on Prince to cut his hair...which cuts the hair to 3/8 inch. I wanted to leave his hair a bit longer and go for a puppy type cut. I tried to shave his legs but ended having to scissor most of his legs down. I ended up having to quit because both him and I got tired and I couldn't find my thinning shears to finish him up. He's done for the moment, but he's not finished by any means. I need to even him out and trim his face up and touch him up. After using the 4 blade, I think it's too short for a puppy cut and too long for a good smooth shave. Looking back...I wish I would have used my other clippers with a longer clipper guard. Here are some pics of his half-ass hair cut. At least it will give you some idea of what a longer blade will look like. |

| My Gizmos has a mixed coat it seems, his face is silky as well as his tail. His legs seem to be a mix of cotton and silk, and his body is total cotton :/( , sines he was a rescue he never had the cropped tail or dew claw removal, and his tail is so long and silky :-) he prances around with his tail up as proud as he can be :-) I think he's got a bit of an ego with his beautiful long silky tail. I've let his tail grow and it's so long that even when he holds it straight out, the hair touches the ground. He's super funny about his tail too, he gets mad if you touch it, unless it's being brushed lol. I was letting his coat grow out until I went away for a weekend, and his babysitter gave him a bath and didn't blow dry him :-( he was so matted I had to cut his hair so he now has the Joey cut. |

| Sorry, I wasn't able to finish my post :-) I was at a drs appt and he came in while I was writing my post lol. Anyways when I got Gizmo back from the babysitter from the weekend, he was super matted from not being blow dried, because his cotton coat mats up really badly if he's not blow dried and brushed well. I left the hair on his tail, legs and face long, and cut the body short and he looks adorable :-). I tried using the clippers but was not liking them at all, and me being a hairdresser, I used my really good hair scissors and a comb just like I would with a human head of hair and cut it all by hand :-) that way I was also able to control different lengths where I wanted it longer or shorter :-) the only thing I used the clippers was for his sanitary area. |

That was the first time I cut her in that way and yes it was too short. I used a #3 but since have changed to a #5 which is perfect, than I use the #7 to do the blending or the fade so that the skirt blends in well. The cut you are talking about is called the Joey cut... Very cute for the little boys.

| You could try something like this to keep the long look. Faux Yorkie The Long and Flowing Illusion | Groomer to Groomer Magazine I wouldn't leave it quite as long though, to get the puppy hair off and because of the summer heat. I'm sorry Gunner doesn't have the coat you hoped for, I didn't know about the coat differences either until after joining YT. As for cutting the hair by the eyes, think long and hard, it's beyond annoying to grow out. Lola's was cut in the beginning of November and I still can't get it in her top knot, it has another 2 inches to grow before it stops being a problem. |

| Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I'm like Dawn (eek, I can't believe I said that!). I have both, and I much prefer the cotton. Yes, I keep him short, but he ALWAYS looks good with little to no brushing. My silky coat looks great when I brush her every day for an hour and bathe her once a week, but after a few years of trying that I ended up cutting her short most of the time.

| Dumb Question.... My little puppy has the cotton coat from what I can tell. How do you know if it will change to the silky or stay cotton like? |
