Hi Everyone Hi Guys My name is JoeAnn and i am new to yorkie talk i will be getting a female yorkie puppy may 20 or 21 she is already spoiled!!! I was wondering what kind of treats and toys you get your yorkies. I got her some yorkie yummies and several squeaky toys from petsmart. Also what are some good potty training tips. thanks |
Hi JoeAn, welcome to Yorkietalk! Congrats on you new fur baby. I get my Yorkies the Wellness Petite Treats soft mini bites or the Wellness just for puppy treats. For toys, mine like the crinkle kind, squeak toys, tennis balls that squeak, and rope toys. For potty training, do you want to train her inside or outside? |
thanks leroy Since my apartment is kind of small i kind of want to potty train her inside i got her a crate called a puppy apartment its where you can use the bathroom in the crate then in the other section she can go to bed. I got her that just in case when school starts back in August she wont mess up my apartment too munch i might get diapers also they say yorkies are hard to house break |
Welcome! How exciting. There are several good books on Yorkies. One is : HOW TO HOUSE BREAK YOUR DOG IN 7 DAY by Shirlee Kalstone. But done take the 7 days literally, but there are great tips in there! |
:welcome4: :yorkietal :welcome4: Joeann, welcome to you and your new pup. I know you are excited! Can't wait to see your precious little one. Your YY's are on the way :). My three are potty pad trained. I use washables - I got mine free from a company that supplies hospitals. They are fantastic and save a bunch of $$ and hopefully I am doing my small part to help the environment. There are a lot of different ideas about potty training. Some crate train, others don't. I'm on the "don't" team. I just feel like it's wrong to put a pup in a cage for hours. My home is as Yorkie proof as I can make it and with little ones running around the house, I do confine them to one room which has potty pads and is extra safe. I'm sure you will get a lot of fantastic ideas! |
thanks guys I really appreciate it the only thing i am worried about is when im at school i am thinking about getting a kong wobbler has anyone tried the kong brand before? |

For Leroy, I trained him to go both inside and outside. Like chattiesmom mentioned I also didn't crate train Leroy. I started training him inside first by putting a training pad down and whenever he would go on it, I would praise him with words and sometimes by giving him treats and made a big deal when he went on the pad. When he didn't pee on it and peed on the floor, I would just ignore him. |
great Thanks I guess ill see how it goes once she gets her i am hoping it goes well |

Welcome. When I got Gizmo I hadn't heard of the doggie apartment yet and I did the same thing inside his crate. I put a pee pad on one half and his blanket on the other half. Since he was 8 weeks he never went on his blanket. He took to the pee pad instantly then I moved it outside his crate and then into the bathroom. He's 6 months old now and still has accidents every once in a while but only with pee. He always goes to his pad to poop. He recently started pulling and playing with his pee pad so I bought the ones with adhesive on the corners but he was still able to pull them into the dining room so.... I outsmarted him by actually taping the sides completely with scotch tape. However if I miss one piece of the pad's edge he will find it and then game on! :D :animal36 |
Hey Guys The ownwer i am getting the dog from has asked if i would like to take the boy dog also he will include him in the price of my girl dog which i already paid for. And he wills ship them together my only concern is since i am in a apartment and he is not related to her it might become a little overwhelming and then i have to worry about puppies and etc and yes this is my first dog lol what should i do and then their soo darn cute i want them all |
