| Neutering a breeder dog I have acquired an intact male dog that was used for breeding for some years. My plan is to neuter him and hopefully have him as a pet. I am wondering what I can expect from him. Since he has been used to a belly band should I expect that I will always need to use a belly band with him? Also will he eventually loose that strong male urine odor or will he always have that smell? Anyone with any experience? |

| I can not address the belly band issue. As for the strong urine odor? I have had male dogs intact and not all my life and none of them have smelled. He may need a bath more often if he has been wearing belly bands. You might try cutting the hair away from his privates and his belly as well. |

I tried many times to have him not wear the belly bands, but he kept marking in the house. He did sleep in a play pen at night and I kept the belly band off during his sleep time and he did great. But during the day he did have to wear one. Congratulations on your new baby.

| I would guess that he will always need a belly band or he will mark. Good luck with your new little guy
