Let me know what you think of this site I created to get free help for pets by vets
 
I'm a vet myself, and wanted a way to help people get reliable information on the internet and for vets to approve that information since they're always the ones that complain about unreliable information on the net. Also, I hope to make it a reliable way to find a decent vet that cares about its community. Any comments / suggestions are very much appreciated.

I asked a vet question via the site, so I'll let you know what I think once I receive an answer. One thing I found confusing is that there doesn't seem to be any way to "browse" or see other people's answered questions...why?

I got my answer and I think that Dr Hur on VetRounds did a very good job. A better job than some of the vets who have actually worked with me and my dog on his case!!

Here's what it looked like and I told Dr Hur in my thank you that all 100,000 of us would be asking questions! LOL!!

My question was "Why does pyoderma recur in some dogs?" and this was the answer:

Pyoderma can be caused by a number of things and just means that there is bacterial infection on the skin. The most common cause is contact or food allergies followed by an opportunistic infection by the bacteria. Oftentimes the treatment includes steroids and antibiotics and while this does tend to clear up the infection, it does not address the cause and a workup for the underlying cause should be performed if it is recurring. If it is happening seasonally, it is likely due to contact allergies, similarly, if there was recently a diet change, it is i likely food allergies. Hormonal changes such as Cushing's or Hypothyroidism can also cause skin conditions which can lead to pyoderma as can autoimmune disorders. A dermatology consult might be of benefit to find the root cause in your case as they specialize in this sort of thing and while the upfront costs can be expensive, it tends to be cheaper in the long run. Good Luck!

Love this answer because quite honestly it makes more sense than the derm I went to.

Thanks for the feedback, we are working on getting enough questions so we can make a more effective search engine...but we definitely have it on our to do list :)

I am having problems with the registration form with Safari, the fields are there but it does not show me what data to put in the fields

I like what I have seen so far. The answers are as detailed as they can be without an actual hands on exam and when more information or serious possibilities exist, the poster is directed to have the pet seen.

Sorry about that, this is good to know...I did not test it in a safari browser and will look into what could be causing these issues.

Oh poop! I registered, but there is no place for a question at the top of the form. When I reached the end of the form, I clicked on 'Post Question'. Then a page came up saying I posted a question.
It reads like this:

What a GREAT resource when you have a question but aren't sure if it warrants a vet visit! My sister texted me last night with a question about her chi...I told her about this site after seeing it here yesterday. She said that she received a reply immediately and was so impressed by this resource. Thank you so much for this! FABULOUS.

I tried to register and was not able to as we here in Canada use Postal Codes and not zip codes.
Is your site going to be available to Canadian pet owners as well?

It will be eventually, but there's some strange rules about Canadian vets advertising their services we'll have to get figured out. In the meantime, you can put a zipcode for your favorite US city and trick the system :)
