| ![]() Hello it's me again... So my original plan with the vet was to sign up for their puppy care plan which would have saved me about $263 in wellness and preventative care. Well, after speaking with the lovely lady at the vet's office he may not qualify for that because he'll have already have had his second set of vaccines. I guess they can't just start in the middle of the plan which sucks to high heaven. She did refer me to a coupon for a free physical exam which was nice. My question to you is what do I expect at this visit? I made it for the same day that I'm getting him so that way he can just get it over with and then rest the remaining time of the weekend. |

| ![]() No, it's another local one. I live right next to a vet but the place I chose has impeccable reviews and a family type environment. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() When-ever you purchase a new puppy it is very good practice to take them into the vet with 48hrs. For one thing most health warranties require that you do this. At your first visit to the vet, you will be asked to fill out their paperwork, have with you the DOB, your contract, and the health record from their previous vet. Also microchip information if they are already microchipped. A good vet wants to have some assurance that this puppy is legally yours ![]() There should be a through physical examination including but not limited to: heart examination with the stethoscope Each joint but for sure all major joints palpated and moved. If a male the vet should check to see if both testes are descended. Shoulder area and spine should be palpated. Knees should be checked Checking for inguinal or umbilical hernias Check to see if dew claws are present and a reminder to you to trim them. Mouth - bite is checked - mouth is opened to see coloration of gums Ears - examined and a "smell" check done. Gait - a brief look at the gait of the puppy. Eyes - should be looked at - you want to see clear bright eyes no discharge Hope this helps out.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() The vet should check: -ears -eyes -knees for luxating patellas (very important as this is common to yorkies!) -heart -lungs -teeth -body condition -weight -whether testes have dropped (if not, your neuter may be much more $$, and breeder should help pay for it)
