Wow, this is great news, I really hope it true, I always thought it would happen, but didn't realize it would happen so fast. The Biewer breeders must have been really good at keep accurate records. |
my breeder posted this on FB today (she breeds yorkies and biewers and is the Vice President of the BTCA) |
IT IS IN FACT TRUE: The AKC's FSS Accepted the Biewer Terrier Yes, it is true. The Biewer Terrier has been accepted into FSS program by the AKC. The AKC board voted in the April board meeting to accept them under the breed name of Biewer Terrier and the only registrations they will be accepting are BTRA, Biewer Terrier Registration of America. It will be posted in the April minutes at the end of next week. |
This makes so very important to check the bonafides of the breeder you select. Make sure before laying down big bucks that your baby biewer terrier has been properly DNA tested to ensure it's purebred. I love my biewer terrier! Tracey And rock on & mega thanks to the BTCA for making this happen! |
Is this not a good thing for the 2 other Biewer groups? |

Some groups ( and I'm not singling out anybody) felt it was healthier to breed in a yorkie every so often. They still called their dogs biewers. They won't be able to do that any more. Some groups have stopped the mixing but their foundation stock may not be pure either. They stand to lose big bucks by losing the biewer name. They call their dogs a "breed" & not a "terrier". It may be a little misleading to continue to do that. So will everybody be friends & play nice now? Don't know. If you want a biewer terrier though, I'd lean toward a BTRA registered litter to ensure you have a purebred. Just my opinion. Tracey |

If you search this sight you'll find heated discussions about this issue. I always wondered why some fought so hard against DNA testing. Well now we'll all get the answers one way or another. |

(Where did you hear that BBIR dogs aren't DNA'd? They certainly are.) Please search on here re the validity of Mars Testing. |

That's just what I have read. There can always be non-akc registered biewers. Just as there are non registered yorkies. Were I to pay primo bucks for one though, I'd want a FSS litter - just like I prefer to have an akc registered Yorkie. Tracey |
This is very exciting news!! |

And the Biewer is a beautiful dog! Tracey |
That's great!! Reminds me of the stuff going on w/ Mini Aussies now. They're now AKC accepted but they're called Mini American Shepherds. But some don't want to seperate into a new breed, they just want a size variation of an Aussie... it's crazy... lol |
Yaaayyy!!! It's official!!!!! 1 Attachment(s) I received an email from the Director of the AKC FSS program confirming that Biewer Terriers have indeed been accepted into the FSS program! |
