Where did you get this information? That is totally not safe to do!

ANSWER: Whether the prevention you choose is given orally, topically, or by injection, all approved heartworm medications work by eliminating the immature (larval) stages of this parasite. This includes the infective heartworm larvae deposited by the mosquito as well as the molted fourth larval stage which develops inside the animal. Unfortunately, within 2 months, immature heartworm larvae can molt into an adult (fifth) stage, which cannot be effectively eliminated by preventives. Because heartworms must be eliminated before they reach this adult stage, it is extremely important that heartworm preventives be administered strictly on schedule (monthly for oral and topical products and every 6 months for the injectable). Administering prevention late can allow immature larvae to molt into the adult stage, which is poorly prevented.

That information about testing every 3 months is from the Mercola site that I linked. Dr. Mercola as you can tell from the numerous article in a quick google search is all about anything regulated by the FDA. He's holistic everything and was in trouble with the FDA for promoting a heat sending screening instead of mammograms.......and we all know how important that is for women's health. He's also behind the anti vaccine movement and the link to autism. All the whole making millions in profits from his mercola holistic site. Guess who works for him......you got it Dr. Becker.

That's another deciding factor that tips the scales towards one product over another. The heartgard is a big chew and Zo is exceptionally picky about her treats. The sentinel is tiny enough to hide in a little bit of cheese, but still I have to do the three-bit-game. The first bit of cheese is plain and she gobbles it up, next comes the bit with the pill hidden in it, very quickly filled by the last plain bit of cheese.
