New Baby," Too Big" I was offered a beautiful 4 month old female last week. The previous owner had bought 2 puppies, both were supposed to be"micro mini's". Apparently mine was too big. She's actually 6 months old and weighs 4.2 pounds. I don't expect here to grow much more but don't really care if she does or doesn't. She's a little skittish about being picked up from the floor but will climb all over you when you sit or lay down. They shaved her down pretty short but she has the sweetest face and the hair will grow, just gives me an excuse to buy more sweaters. Someone's loss is definitly our gain. My 14 month old Niko thinks she was bought especially for him. |
Sorry, but in my opinion ( note im not saying this in anyone else's opinion ) there is no such thing as ' Teacup', 'mini', 'micro' or ' miniature'. A dog or puppy which is described as a this is going to ( maybe no guarantee ) have health issues. 'Teacup' is just a disguise name for an ill bred puppy or dog. How can a yorkie be too big? Yes at six months old 4.2 lbs is quite big but its not massive. It makes me wonder if she was planning on breeding from it. Yorkies are all small dogs, so it couldn't be a matter of ' its too big for my house'. Its good that you won't be bothered if she gets bigger! I like seeing people like you who actually dont care if their yorkies have issues* like their ears down, their size or looks etc! I wish i could be a bit more like you! Your fur-baby is definitley not too big! Greatest Wishes Heidi & Rosie! |

I feel the same about my pups...they are perfect, however they turn out. Our new little girl is a TANK, we think she'll end up bigger than Caleb, we'll love her just as much, as if she'd been a dainty little girl. We adore her personality and the Tank like behaviour is hilarious. I don't buy into the teacup, micro market. No sane person wants to seek out and buy a runt. Good luck with your little one (however big she is, I bet she's still little). Do you have any photos of her, we LOVE photo here.:) p.s When I pick mine up, I say 'pick up'. I had to do it from a sitting position to begin with Caleb. It seems help them get themselves ready and in position. |
I have 2 very small ones, 2.6 lbs and 3 lbs, who scare me to death at times. Elvis, the small one thinks he can fly and thinks he can attack a pit bull. Put him together with his sister Izzy and they will. They do however leave my great dane alone, unless they're on the bed at chest level with her. They do have the sense to stay away from her when on the ground. I do keep them apart unless I'm with them but even then you have to be constantly watching to keep them from being stepped on. My bigger 2 are 6 pounds and 9 pounds. The 9 pound one, Sebastion, Sebby for short, lives in his own little world. I got him from a puppy mill about a year ago. He's coming around but will probably never be the type to play with others although he'll sleep with me and is starting to push my hand to be scratched. He's probably the closest to breed standard except for size. He's absolutely beautiful. Niko was given to me at 6 days of age. Poor breeding resulted in his mother dying. He's my avatar right now. He loves everybody. He's my danes best buddy They play well together but at 6 pounds I still have to watch carefully. Sage, my dane, has learned to lay down to play to get to Niko's level. I don't know where Piper will fit in. Right now she plays with Niko and some of my fosters but I wonder what happened to the poor little thing in her short life to make her so timid. I'm hoping that we can turn that around bu getting her this young. Maybe she just didn't get attention because she was "too big". Not a problem at our house. All my dogs are perfect and are just what they should be. I did post a photo in the gallery of my new baby. She's as cute as can be and will be beautiful when her hair grows out. I don't know what possessed them to shave her puppy cut. |
She sounds perfect and adorable...did you name her yet? |

Make sure you get her checked out very well by a vet and get pet insurance that covers genetic issues because if the breeder used the word micro and mini they where a bad breeder and didn't do genetic testing and probably didn't care if genetic illness ran in the lines or not so just be prepared. Hopefully she will live a long healthy life with no problems. |

I am so glad you took her. She is happy that she got out of that situation. Now she is somewhere that she will be loved |

Her new name is Piper. She charts to be five and a half pounds but I usually add an extra pound which seems to be more accurate me for me. I think that's a very nice size unless of course you're looking for a micro mini. I'm not overly worried about her health issues because I got her through my vet and he knows how I feel about my dogs. The only health issue I've noticed so far is dry skin and we're going to be changing her diet to canine caviar which I've had good luck with. Right now she's on wellness puppy. |
Congrats on your new addition and I love the name you've given her! |

The people thought that a 4.5lb 4 month old pup was too big? It is their loss!:) She may get a bit bigger but I have heard of some people being sold a "teacup" that was already 4lbs at 8 weeks! It is really sad that people want such tiny dogs. Such small sizes as the nonexistent "micro mini" are supposed to be can be a real handicap for the dog not to mention the health problems that crop up in pups that are bred by such people. I hope you and your little guy do well together. |
