I groom my babies once a month about. I give them a bath whenever they need it, so I probably wash them like 5 times a month. Nail trimming is also once a month, but I want to start trimming them more often so they don't get as long. As for anal glands, I tried to do it once myself and I really can't stand it, so I let my vet do it. The first time Cookie went to the groomer they did a pretty bad job. That day I vowed I would learn how to groom them myself. LOL |
Looking for a puppy cut style to show my groomer Bailey has lots of thick hair and I stretch the grooming to about 5-6 wks. He has been getting matting so I want to do a shorter all over cut. but I hate just saying that, I sure don't want him shaved! just cute. He has been biting his tail area, and I don't know whether its the matting that causes it or what. I haven't changed anything w his food. I gave him some benedryl and it had no effect. MY groomer comes to me for $35 plus tip, which is very cheap for my area. Just wish I could find a picture to show her. I can't believe I cant find anything by googling it. And none here...under the search tab!!! Impressed how many of all you groom yourself. I give him bathes often as he loves the water. |
I bathe Gizmo every weekend and he goes to the groomer every 3 weeks. He could probably go to the groomer ($55) less often but to me he starts looking scruffy around week two. When i take him to the groomer I take a picture so there are no mistakes. Since they do so many dogs, I want to make sure there is no confusion on how I want Gizmo to look. She's about 15 miles away and there are others closer to me, but she doesn't crate the dogs. |
4 times a year every 3 months ( washed and hair cut) Washed in between |

Dinkster gets a weekly bath. Grooming depends on the weather. We keep his hair shorter in the summer and longer in the winter. Just recently we let his hair grow for 12 weeks because we were away from home. We looked for a temporary groomer, and we even went into the place. We just didn't feel comfortable and decided he would have to be hairy until we got back home. I would rather trust my instincts and keep him messy but safe. He just went today and looks nice, clean, and comfortable, and we are more grateful than ever that the groomer we have is so competent and gentle. |
Lexie is in a modified show coat. I bathe once a week or she smells like Fritos. She is brushed every day. She gets groomed every 6 weeks ($50 including tip) which gets nails, ears, sanitary trim and anals only when needed, which is maybe once or twice a year. Pretty cheap. And I love my groomer! |
We groom out 3 at home, as we feel that it's safest for them. We do baths every 2-3 weeks depending time of year. I have to brush Wylie and Pfeiffer every couple of days though. Wylie is in a puppy cut and doesn't really need to get brushed, so he just gets massages :D. |
I groom my 3 at home. They all get a haircut about every 4 weeks, in "The Joey" cut (modified Schnauzer), and get bathed weekly, and nails clipped about every other week. |
Kimchi gets groomed by the groomer at least once a month and that's to get her major maintenance done. In between I may give her a bath or even trim her nails if they are longer than I care for, but otherwise she seemed to start getting more excited when I bring her to the groomers lately (I always bring her treats for them to use on her, if needed). I think she enjoys getting groomed by them more than me ^^;;. She loves getting attention from everyone she meets (sometimes wee's in excitement ^^;;..) so them pampering her is a treat. They also gush about how she almost falls asleep when being groomed (when thinking on it, I think I accidentally trained her that way by keeping her wrapped in a towel and holding her for her nap after bathes), she's much more accommodating when relaxed or sleepy. Otherwise, me trying to do most stuff is a little tricky as she wants to gnaw on my hand/brush/whatnot. So for her to get her day treatment/care and her enjoy it is worth the price :D |
My 3 Yorkies (and Terrier Mix) are groomed every 2-3 months. My profile picture is of one of my Yorkies who was just groomed when I took that picture. I have their hair cut low so it's slow to grow back. In between professional grooming I bathe them as needed, so as not to cause them to have dry skin. Daily I clean their eyes and check their anus for debris. I also trim around their eyes as needed. Their nails don't seem to be a problem. This system works great for us. On occasion, I will use a waterless cleaner just to freshen them up. I have an excellent groomer that I've used for almost 10 years. He's compassionate and always grooms them just as I instruct. He's the most popular groomer in my community. The only negative is that cost has increased over the years to $45 per dog which seems expensive but is still reasonable for California. |
I've let Graysee's hair get almost paw level, so I brush her every day, and try to bathe her every 7-10 days. The mobile groomer comes to the house every 5-6 weeks for her professional grooming, but in between I handle the work. I can't get her to sit still for nail clipping, though, so I leave that up to the groomer. She hates the blow dryer, so it's a real task to dry her and brush her at the same time!!! :) |
I'm wanting to start grooming Maggie myself. I haven't found a groomer that I like. The last time, she came home with her fur on top totally uneven. I was not happy! She is a soft, wooly coat so a normal cut doesn't look good on her and ends up all choppy looking. I'm trying to let her grow out a bit now but I do need to do her ears and hind end soon. |
i bathe religiously once to twice a week since they both play fight so much they look homeless if I don't. And their hair isn't too dry from bathing that often. sometimes i bathe them more often since they will launch themselves into the shower with me whenever they feel compelled...lol. I take them for trims once a month |
