going into heat?
 
my yorkie is almost a year old. she has no signs of her period. no licking or swelling of the vulva. shedoesnt seem to have any symptoms . We do plan to breed her when he grows up.

It's wonderful that you are checking your little girl and keeping her safe from unwanted pregnancies. She is very small, and it's unlikely that she will reach five pounds when fully mature. If she doesn't, please read all that you can about Yorkies and whelping. Five pounds is the smallest that a Yorkie should be safely bred, and even then, there are often problems.

yeah , we will probably breed her when shes old and mature enough . her mom is heavier 6 pounds but her dad is 3, she's probably the runt of the litter.when do you think we should start to breed her. Her mom was 2 and a half years old.

If she is under 5 pounds she should not be bred and you need to make sure you get health and genetic testing done. The only reason one should breed is to better the breed.

she is from champion bloodlines and she will probably grow a little more. My purpose for breeding is to show and/or companionship.

But if she is under 5 pounds it will be very dangerous to breed her and no reputable breeder will breed a dog under 5 pounds.

It surprises me that if she came from really good lines then why do you have breeding rights? Most reputable breeders work extremely hard for there lines and don't just let anyone have the rights to them.

Is she still tiny? If so, you will have a difficult time showing her (well maybe not showing but winning) and you would really be taking a risk breeding her. But if not, I would say jump in there and go to a show. It's a lot of fun and it can be a really positive experience for both of you! You'll meet some great people and you'll learn a lot. Most of us that show, usually finish our dogs before breeding because it's so hard to maintain a full coat and even harder with a pregnant/nursing mom.

our last yorkie died roni rip.. the breeders are one of the close friends we know so they let us have one of their puppies since we lost our last one.

roni our last yorkie was a very standard yorkie 5.5 pounds ble and tan but then suddenly he died from old age. the breeders we got kari from are the breeders who had competed with us and roni. the knew him for 10 years and his passing was horrible so we got one of theirs and decided to breed her so we can contine the championship lines.

But if she is under 5 pounds she should not be bred. Are you getting that? If your breeder is ok with breeding females under 5 pounds she is not a reputable breeder.

I'm very sorry about your loss. Many people are unaware of the risks with Yorkies, particularly when they are tiny, so I wanted to let you know.

yeah I get that that's why ill wait till shes grown cause shes still a pup now and might still grow. her mom is 6 and her dad is around 5. so do you think she will grow to be 5lbs. thanks
