Well if I could take my dogs with me I probably would. We have just went on two day vacations since we got them and we left them at home. If I couldnt take them I would board them. My groomer boards them for you. We are planning a vacation to Disney and they will board them for you but you have to go there at least once a day and walk your dog. We dont know if we would be able to do that so we will probably board them at the groomers. |
I am lucky enough that my mum looks after all my babies for me. (2dogs,2cats and a rabbit) Don't think i like them to go in kennels! |
Yes you are lucky I dont have anyone like that to watch my dogs. My groomer doesnt keep them in a cage all day though. They are let out to get some exercize. She just loves my dogs so I know they will be treated well. |
Syd stays with her grandma when we are away...whether it be for just one night or a full vacation. Our first vacation was about 3 weeks after we brought her home. She wasn't that attached to us yet and she fit right into life with grandma for a week. She didn't even seem to recognize us at first when we came to pick her up. :( Since then, the longest we have been gone is over 1 night. She doesn't like being left...but she deals. I am concerned that in 8 months we are getting married and Syd will be left with grandma for about 2 weeks solid. I'm afraid she will get depressed. |
I don't take vacations to often. I 'd rather stay with my puppies! In the last 12 years i have only gone on 1 vacation and that was to Vegas in May and my husband stayed home with my pom. I don't know if I could leave Cali but I'm hoping she will like to travel and we can go with her. |
Me and my husband are going to Vegas in June for our 1 year wedding anniversary and I am already getting sad about having to leave them. I dont know where they will go probably with my mom or something but it just worries me to death, I probably will not have a very good anniversary without my babies. :( |
Man I still haven't gone out of town - I just don't think anyone will take as good of care of my boys - however I do have a grown son that would be able to stay with them - but I would miss them so much why go..... |
The only place Tatum has ever stayed while we've been away is with my mother-in-law. But then that's where she spent the first year of her life anyways because we lived with her while building our new house. I don't think I could leave her at the kennel that our Australian Shepherd goes to but haven't had to make that decision yet either. Stormie (the AS) goes to a kennel that a neighbor of ours has. We know them very well and trust them completely with her but I think little ones (like Tatum) are a whole different ballgame. With our toy poodle, we would board him at the vet because they loved to play with him and gave him lots of extra attention. That's probably where I would take Tatum if I absolutely had to leave her and her Grandmother wasn't available. But I don't think that really answers your question (not completely anyway).... I'm pretty okay about leaving Tatum (knowing that she's comfy cozy on Grandmother's big bed at night). I don't have separation anxiety where she's concerned but do miss her while we're gone. |
When we first got Magic we were very lucky in that we could take her out of town with us...we were out of town for about two weeks but she was allowed in the hotel, so she was able to stay with us the whole time... This past summer we went to Vegas for a weekend and couldn't take the girls, my aunt took the girls for the weekend which made the trip much more fun. I didn't have to worry about them beng boarded or anything and I knew they were having fun with them. I called everyday to check in and missed them alot but knew they were safe and happy!! |
We had to go away for a week just a week after we got Chloe, she got really attached to my aunt then and we were worried she would never be happy with us. Well I guess that wasn't the case because now she is always following one of us around, and is always up for cuddles and kisses. She never forgot my aunt though. As soon as she hears her call her name shes at the porch, front paws stretched up waiting for cuddles. My grandma usually takes care of Chloe now, and shes finally gotten used to it and knows we will always return for her. It broke our hearts to leave her for the first few times becasue she would never want to go and had once completely rebelled against grandma by leaving a surprise for her on the couch  It hurts to leave our babies but its a wonderful reunion for everyone when you return for them again. :) |
I'm lucky enough that my mom looks after my pets when I go away. I try to take my little ones with me when I can...... I miss them sooooooo much when I can't. |
I know how you feel. I really don't want to leave Raisin either, but we have to go to CA for a few days to go to my sister in laws wedding. I miss her already knowing I won't get to see her everyday. I wish we could take her with us - I would love to have her there to go sight-seeing with, but even if the hotel accepts dogs, I wouldn't leave her there during the wedding :( Fortunately she will be staying with my mom, but I still worry because Raisin is never home alone for long amounts of time and my mom will be out of the house from 7-4:30 to go teach. That will only be one day though. She has thought about taking Raisin to school with her (she teaches 5th grade) but I think that might stress the dog out too much. Or she'd have the time of her life, who knows... I do know that I'm a worry-wart and will be leaving behind instructions and calling when we're gone. :p Anyone who has stayed in a hotel with their yorkie... what do you do if you have to go places that your pup can't go... or do you only plan to go whereever yorkies are accepted? |
I went on a cruise back and November and I missed my little furbabies so much. Really I mostly worried about them. As thier mother, I dont feel like anyone else can take care of them as good as I. They were just fine when I got home but still I couldnt help but worry. It was fun coming home to millions of puppy kisses! :p |
I went away in November for 12 days without Olivia. I intended to take her with me, but decided against it as the time neared. She stayed with my mom and was fine. I called my mom every day to see how she was doing, though! (The woman raised me, you'd think I'd have some confidence in her!) If at all possible, I will be taking Olivia with me on future vacations. We boarded our family dogs a few years ago and we couldn't stand leaving them in a strange place. I'm lucky that I have a few people in my family with who I would trust Olivia if I had to leave her, but I realize that everyone isn't so lucky. |
We get a house down the shore and take Tucker with us. I don't know what I would do with him if I couldn't take him. I'd miss him terribly and anyone who watched him would kill him! (j/k) |

I know I am pathetic but I only plan vacations that can include Shelby now. We are planning a ski trip but going with relatives so my husband can ski. I don't care about skiing anymore, though I might try cross-country b/c dogs are allowed :D We stay at Petfriendly places and I take the pup in my purse when we go out. She goes everywhere with me. Last week she saw King Kong. I told you I am pathetic. good websites http://www.dogfriendly.com/ http://www.petswelcome.com/milkbone/framelist.html |
Yes, I've left Rowdy for 2 weeks - BUT it was on a trip that was booked and paid for LONG before we even thought about getting him. Its was a cruise so there was no way he could go. Since then we have not left him and it would be very hard to do. We are going to northern CA and OR in May and he is definitely going with us. |

He just stayed on the bed - we put him there when we left and he was too little to get on the bed and he was still there when we got back, so I know he didn't get down. When we travel to CA and OR in the spring, we will be staying in hotels and yes, we will probably have to leave him a time or two in the 2 weeks we'll be traveling. It is worrisome. |
Welcome Yorkiepip. I rarely go on vacation and most of the time they are "working" vacations to horse sale events. The vast majority of the time we take the three Yorkies and the Boo the Boxer with us and we all stay in our horse trailer with living quarters. Unless our oldest son will be at home, hubby and I NEVER leave our furkids home. |
This year we are doing something different by staying in a pet friendly beachouse on St.George's island in Fla.With 2 new puppies I worry the whole time if I left them in a kennel.Cathy and Yoshi |
Bella is actually being boarded right now as I type! My boyfriend and I are in Hawaii right now, leaving tonight and she's being boarded for the first time ever. I knew that it would be hard but I didnt realize how how hard it would be until I dropped her off, got back into the car and started to cry! I miss her so so much and can't wait to pick her up tomorrow. The boarding facility she is staying at is cage free and probably nicer then some hotels I've stayed at! They even email me picture updates of her to let me see how she's doing. And since she's been there for over three days, they will give her a free bath so she'll be all nice and groomed by the time I pick her up tomorrow! |
