Well I thought I had a good groomer until..... I have always been impressed with the job my groomer does, but recently I noticed charlie limping around. And of coarse I was scared and the first thing I thought was... Oh great... it's his knees. Well. then I noticed it looked like it's coming from one of his front legs, not the back. I feel his nails and one of his nails is so long its curling under. that must be bothering him. I am sure that is what it is that is making him limp a little. I'm calling my vet instead to see if I can get him in to get those nails trimmed. But my groomer is going to hear about this. My friend was insisting I try hers. She says hers is great. I may give them a try now. No excuse really. The nails should be clipped when they get groomed, right? I take him regularly, his nail should not be so long it's curling under. |
I've always been too scared to do that on my own. I have clippers but I would rather have someone else do that. Plus that, Charlie always fights me more. |
My groomer charges separately for nail trimming, so I always have to specify that I want it done. When in doubt, be sure to mention EVERYTHING you want done (or not done, like anal gland expression), even if you think it should be obvious. |

It's the dewclaw, they curl up & dig into their paw if it's not trimmed...I can't believe why your groomer would've missed that. Weird. Fired. loll Hope your new groomer will be more attentive to Charlie. |

That's what I would think. I always get the whole package so I assumed his nails were included.. I am going into my vet today and he is going to do it. He is right around the corner. And since it is so long, I would rather have him do it. |

Sorry about Charlie! At the very least your groomer should have found and informed you by phone while Charlie was there that the dew claw was long and needed clipping if nail clipping is a separate charge! |

I had an older Pommie client that had both his dewclaws curled up & digging into his paw. My face was seriously like this when I saw it. I felt so bad for the old guy. I cut it & was wondering what his paw would look like & was hoping it wouldn't bleed...or worse, have the nail stuck in there & I needed to pull it out. The nail just fell off & his paw was fine! It had indentation marks loll but he was ok. Hope Charlie will be ok too! |
