B4 I went to grooming school, I was lucky to live 2 blocks away from a grooming place. She only charged $5 for nail trims & that included dewclaws!

The first time Bella's nails were trimmed by the vet, I got a freebie, and they showed me how to do it, just in case I wanted to do it myself (which I don't, LOL!). I've always had the groomer do it since then.

For some reason, the dewclaw grows the fastest. Yes, everyone should check if your pup has dewclaws!

The groomers always do the nails for the package the few times I take them in but I always feel like I have to remind them about the dew claw. There were few times where I didn't mention it and they didn't do the dew claw.

My groomers always do the nails when needed. Mine go to the groomer every week for their bath. My Allie just happens to still have all her dew claws and my groomer does trim them as well. It does not cost extra at all.

Me too...I always remind them about Toki's dewclaw because she only has one of them and I worry it'll get overlooked, especially if they're comparing side-to- side and assume that both sides must be the same and not have one.

Well he is trimmed up now. The vet said all his other nails were fine. Just the 'dew' claw was long. Both were. lol Weird. Maybe it's an employee who is scared to trim that one or something. I will mention it next time I go.

I know when I have an ingrown toenail it hurts. I'm sure theirs do too when they get too long.

Huh maybe she thinks Charlie doesn't have his dewclaws & never noticed them. Glad Charlie is ok!

Sometimes dew claws can be forgotten sense some dogs have them and some don't. It has never happened to me but I could see it happening. I'm nuts about checking Callie's dew claws because she has had an infection that was very hard to get to go away, she also ripped it off once, and I grew up with a dog that's dew claws grew so fast they had to be checked all the time or they would be curled in her paw in no time.

Good point. I am not going to be so quick to judge this time and just mention it to them when I go again. because I have been really happy with their service so far. It could be an innocent over site. Who knows. but charlie always leaves smelling clean, looking good and feeling happy and spunky so I know they aren't doing anything to scare him while he's there. I'm sure it's not easy to find a groomer that your dog is comfortable with, you know. And he gets a new bandana every time he goes too.

I wouldn't stress that much over one nail. Especially the dew claw. It could truly just be a mistake, and her thinking he doesn't have any, as a lot of dogs don't. I wouldn't fire over, if you're otherwise happy. :) Just ask her to cut them in the future!

My vet (techs) charges $12 for a nail trim and they only use the nail clippers, not a dremel. They don't charge at all if you have them do it as part of a vet visit for something else. My groomer (who I just use for feet since I do the rest myself-except the time he had gum in his mustache-he got that out for me) charges $8 for nail clipper trim but adds $3 if you want them dremeled-which I do, so they aren't so sharp afterwards. I also get his feet close trimmed "clean feet", silky-style, so for the nails and trim I pay $13 and we go every 2-3 weeks. Huey doesn't have dew claws, so thankfully, I don't have to worry about that.
