Eye Boogies I'm not sure if this is a Yorkie thing or just Gizmo but I try to wipe his eye boogies off everyday but he makes so much that after work by the time I wipe him down some are already hard as rocks. He gets a bath once a week where I have to soak them and can get them out, sometimes though even that doesn't work and I have to cut the hair off. Does anyone have a better remedy then just soaking them or cutting them out? or a anything that would help him make less? |
I have to do that for Piper. I try to wipe it out as soon as I see it but it is hard. Aromapaws makes a face wash that may help. You use it on the dry hair. Their shampoos and products are all natural and reasonable. Google aroma paws. |

I had a problem with this with certain dog foods. Don't know if that's a common cause or only with my girls. Can I ask what you are feeding him? |
Also my favorite face wash is Espree Foaming Face Wash in the plum scent. You can get it at toplinepetcom. |
I use vetericyn for almost everything topical. They have an eye wash and eye gel that helps the eyes. This stuff is amazing and I have used it for so many different things, from my neighbors dogs hot spots to sties (sp?) in my husbands eye, which worked very quickly. My daughter has used it on herself for psoriasis that she had since she was a child, and its finally gone after 32 years from using the spray version. Read the reviews on it and its amazing. I actually am a paraplegic, and for years had to have a tube that was surgically put through to drain my bladder but that did not even work. Last march I had the tube removed after having it for 4 years because I was still getting really bad staph infections, and I had heard of this product being effective on humans, as there is a rx version for people that is fom the same company but cost 3x as much because it is rx, but anyways I use it as a solution to flush my bladder and I have not had an infection since march. All it really is, is super oxegenated water that kills bacteria and promotes healthy cellular growth. It's really an amazing product that works for so many things its unbelievable. I have used it on my Gizmo for an allergy for fleas, and it totally soothed his skin right away and no more itching. HEre is a link for the eye version so you can read about it :-) Vetericyn Ophthalmic Products | Vetericyn Eye Wash and Gel by Doctors Foster and Smith |

Same boat here.... Ours has sneezing and sometimes snuffling issues as well. He sneezes a lot when excited. I kinda figured it was a yorkie thing, eye buggars, nose, mouth....since they are all attached... I know ours needs dental work real bad.. mamma is supposed to be consulting with the vet... I may need to pick up that torch since it's not getting done.. my thought is that his bad teeth MAY be responsible for some of his sneezing and excessive eye buggars. IDK:confused: I'd hate to put ours through extensive dental surgery if it lowers his quality of life... he's 10-12 years old... not sure how much pain he could stand from an extensive dental... I am extremely scared that we may lose him to a surgery.... dental.. Is it like toss a coin thing? I'll figure out how to word it better and start a thread... I didn't intend to ramble and hijack the thread. Anyway, ours has eye buggars too, some days there is more than others.. It's way better now than when we first rcvd him 6 months ago. |
Just looked at my old threads. It was Wellness we had issues with. |
You might find some info here in this thread. Hope it helps. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-eye-gunk.html |

BTW, off topic but is there an easier way to quote multiple posts then by hitting the quote button on each and copying and pasting what it puts? |

If you order online, make sure it is not shipped through anywhere that is can freeze. The reason for this, is because the main way it works is the high oxygen level, freezing kills off the oxygen. It's pretty amazing stuff though, and is not made of a bunch of chemicals, it's pretty organic. |
Oh I see your also in California like me :-) I order mine from calvetsupply.com . |
Here is link to where it is on their site Cal Vet Supply - your source for Antibiotics, Frontline, Syringes and Veterinary Supplies |
I just use plain water w/a baby terry cloth. If the eye booger is caked on, you can do a mini facial & just wet your fingers w/warm water, apply it on the eye & simply wipe off after it gets soft. You can also use a flea comb or the fine side of a comb & comb it off after it's gotten soft. Don't let the eye booger cake on & stay there for awhile, it will irritate the sensitive skin underneath. Try Gerber PURE water for mixing baby formula for him to drink. They have it @ walmart or target. |
We sell vetricyn at my work but I had never thought of using it for Lilah's goopy eyes!! I have heard a lot of folks are big on foods like first mates chicken and bluberries to reduce eye goopy- something to do with antioxidants I believe, o course it as the sales rep who told me that, lol! Does anyone use angel eyes or a similar product? I'm sure daily face washing is the only real way to beat it but it would be nice to have some help in the battle! Can't wait to check out the face wash recommendations, I'm in the market to fall in love with a comprehensive grooming line myself right now- going to have to start a thread about that :) I use a general tear stain removal product (trying for nightly) it is liquid and I wipe it onto her eye/moustache area and then comb her face wig our metal straight comb. We also use earth bath grooming wipes in mango tango. |

I do this too. Just be careful when using the comb around the eyes, last thing you want is to poke them in the eye! |
