What did the breeder require from you before you could take your puppy home? Besides the money of course. An interview? An application, questionnaire or another kind of form? I know for renters they will ask for proof that you are allowed to have pets in your apartment but what if you own? Did they ask for proof of ownership? What kind of proof did they require? Has a breeder ever requested to inspect your home? What would you consider too extreme for the breeder to ask? :animal36 |

Not one asked for anything. |
My breeder just asked us alot of questions and told us if she wouldnt have liked us we wouldnt have gotten a puppy. |
Only one question "Have you ever had Yorkies before?" When I told her for 11 and 12 years, she smiled and said we could come get her tomorrow after she got her all cleaned and packed! :D |
Mine asked lots of questions. She also said if she didn't like me she wouldn't sold me my little one. I take Taffy over to visit every month. :) Star, Taffy & Baby |
Mine didn't ask anything. I ask a lot though. |
Not much... I asked all the questions, and I think I babbled on and on, so I think she knew all she needed to know about me,, I was SO happy.. To be getting a pup,, I think she knew I was gonna be a great mom. ;) |
Sailor's breeder didn't really ask for anything...just some general questions. We had brought Magic with us, so she knew we already had one and we just asked some quesitons, saw the parents and that was it!! |
I had to "convince" one to let me buy the puppy. She was in Texas and was doing an email interview of all the many requests she got from people who wanted my Princess Chai. I answered honestly to the question about kids and other dogs and she replied back that this little girl was too small and couldn't be in a home with children or large dogs...AArgh......Good Breeder!! I was able to convince her that my children were all teenagers and dog lovers, that I worked at home, and that she would live the life of a princess. I told her my dogs are all obedience trained and service animals and she then loosened up and we continued to communicate. She would not ship her until she was 2 lbs which was at 15 weeks (3 hour plane ride). She came with a blanket, a bed, toys, albon, food, pictures of her parents and siblings, pictures of her from birth until 14 weeks, the vet health certificate (I had interviewed the vet over the phone too and he raved about this breeder), and detailed instructions on her history both health and personality. I don't think most breeders care about whether pets are allowed where you live because they assume that they are but I do know that some breeders make home visits and some interview ALL family members. Mine are service animals so they are allowed anywhere by law. |
A breeder can ask as much as a customer is asking of him or her . When I purchased my first show Yorkie , I signed a must show contract . This one stipulated that I could have her bred only when she would have her championship done , also there was a fine to pay if I didn't show and breed her without CH . |
Here is a link to an example of a Breeder Questionnaire from a breeder I know: http://www.dandieyorkies.com/questionnaire.html |
Mine didn't ask anything either... :( That makes me sort of sad to say that. |
I spoke by phone with my breeder for 45 minutes ans she told me after about 15 minutes in to the call that she had 1 left and that she keeps the best for last in case they do not sell. Boy was she right, Cali was so much cuter than her littermates. We drove 3 1/2 hours to see her at 6 weeks and wen tback when she was 9 weeks to take her home. At the first visit after we put the deposit down she told me someone else was interested and wanted to come the day before and take her at 6 weeks and she said no way and besides she had someone coming to look at her Friday. We spent about 1 1/2 hours there and she showed me the litter mates and the parents. She also wouldn\'t let me put the puppy on the floor which now after being on YT i know why. She also said that if it didn\'t work out they would take her back. |
Some ask if you have small children and some ask if you have a fenced yard. Some will ask if you\'ve owned a yorkie before. |
