Hello...I'm new here Hi everyone, You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on moving around in here. I have a 4 year old teacup that I plan on breeding at her next heat.Dottie is 6lb.4 oz and will be breed to the same size stud. My question is:How many puppies can I expect for this first litter? Sorry,I have yet to figure out how to make my pictures small enough to post..I'll get it eventually>>>LOL Nice to meet all of you.My hope is to learn as much info on breeding ,pregnancy and birth as possible. Hi Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I am sure you will get a lot of good information on here. |
Hi and Welcome to YT! I don't know anything about breeding, but just wanted to welcome you. There is a wealth of information on the forum. The search button is really handy! There are many knowledgeable breeders here as well. It would be great if you can find a mentor to help you in your endeavor! |
Hi, welcome! :p :aimeeyork |

Welcome Rose, As you move around yorkie talk you will see that we try to to use the word teacup, as most of us do not agree with the term. But a 6lb 4 oz yorkie is considered a standard. Not a tiny. Why do you call her a teacup? I would suggest that you start reading all you can about the breed and the possible failures and sucesses in breeding Yorkies, breeding really isn't for any yorkie. But to answer your question you can have anywhere from 1 to 6 puppies. I don't think I have ever heard of a first time yorkie having more than 6. |
Hi, and welcome! I'm gonna jump in here because this is classic case of mis-informed and hopefully me and some others can help you out here :) Your yorkie being over 6 lbs is not what some consider a "teacup". I for one don't use the term to describe any yorkie, they're just tiny if they are under 4 lbs in my opinion. I am glad that your girl isn't a so-called teacup because it would be hard on her to breed if so. You said she is 4 yrs old, that isn't bad at all. I would like to say that you should just do your research, which you will find tons of here and lots of nice folks who will be willing to help you to learn what you are in store for. Do you have a pic of your female you would like to breed? Have you weighed out her faulty qualities over her good one's before deciding to breed her? Have you checked out the background on the potential stud? I know questions questions but we all just want what is best for you and for her. There is no way for me or anyone to tell you how many puppies to expect. That is determined by how many eggs she produces and the time span in which she is bred to the male... |
Hello and welcome to Yorkie talk!!! |
Sorry about the teacup....LOL Can't say why this phrase would bother anyone????Sorry.Guess im better educated with horses... Anyways,it's great to have other Yorkie lovers out there. I'll try to get a picture up soon. |
You are so smart to be doing your research before breeding your precious baby! I commend you on that! Your best bet as someone considering breeding your pet is to get a mentor...someone in your area who breeds yorkies and is a reputable breeder with a good reputation. Possibly your vet knows of someone who fits that decription if you don't. I am not a breeder but I have read about all of the risks and there is so much to learn that I know it is not for me. I have great respect for yorkie breeders because it is such hard work. I do not know how many puppies most first litters contain but I think it can be anywhere from one to seven being the most I have ever heard of in a yorkie litter with three or four probably being the average. Olivier, a breeder on here just had six and another breeder, YorkiRini had two. You might try posting in the Breeder section too as the breeders tend to check that section and stay there a lot. I am sure they can answer your questions better than me. Welcome to YT!! |
Welcome to YT! In the breeder's section, you'll find pages of info that can help you out. Glad to have you here! |
Oh my daughter loves horses! She has been riding for 3 years now. She rides English and would rather live in a barn than a house LOL. You will find all kinds of information here that is priceless. |
