Piper always does this, too!! She mainly does it when I'm sitting on the sofa and she wants up but when I go to grab her to put her up with me she runs back. She used to do it to me when we would go bye bye but a couple of times I just walked out the door without her. She didn't like that very much so now if we're going bye bye she sits at my feet and waits for me to pick her up. They are little stinkers!! |
Yoshi does this! Especially when i get her sweater for her to go outside. I'll say "OUTSIDE OUTSIDE" in a really high voice and she runs to me, then i bend and she scoots back. so i just continue to bend and she comes and sniffs my hand and then finally lays on her belly. |
Gizmo does this, but its because he wants to play chase. He loves trying to outmaneuver me around our kitchen island and the coffee table in the living room hahaha. Sometimes it can take me up to 30 mins to catch him he's so fast !!!!! Lol. He usually does it at night when he knows its bedtime :-) |
hahahah My Pierre does the exact same thing, when its time for a walk and I grab his harness, he runs all over the house expecting me to chase after him, now I say, Ok byeeeeeeee and he jumps up on the couch as if to say. Ok Mommy go ahead, put it on Im ready now lol goof balls they are. |
When I put on Bailey's harness, he backs up and then looks like this sad sad dog that someone has abused and curls up almost into a ball.:( I and my family know that he is well looked after and loved much... but other people don't. It makes me feel like I have done something wrong to him. Silly boy!:animal36 After he gets the harness on, he's back to happy go lucky and it's go time. |
Bella is a good little girl and always comes when called indoors. Outdoors, she ignores me completely, and has to be on a leash and harness at all times. |
Charlie got out of the garage last week and thought the game was on. I ended up chasing him all over the car port. He even ran into my neighbors garage (thankfully everyone around here is dog friendly and my neighbor thought it was funny). Anyway, I turned the game on him and turned and started running the other way towards my place and it worked. He turned and ran after me, right into the house. lol |

We don't have much "off leash" time because we live in a subdivision... and no fence. But I DO put 5 ex pens together which gives them a lot of space to run and play....... Be careful that your little ones don't run off into a damgerous situation when off leash!! Especially if they run FROM you!! Here's a tip..... When you want your Yorkie to come to you and it keeps playing the "chase me" game, turn the situation around...... YOU run the other way and see what happens!! I will bet that your little furball will come right after you!!!! :D |
morgan does that also// it is annoying when you need to pick him up and go somewhere// then he runs into the bathroom and waits for me |
Once I run from him he does follow, and as soon as I start to turn around, he has figured out its his turn to run hahaha. We do it all in fun inside the house though as I would never let him off leash outside :-) if I really want to catch him quick, I just pick up the treat bag and he runs right to me and sits down lol. |
I'm surprised so many pups run away when it's time to go somewhere! Lola learned after like 2 times harness=going places, all I have to do is sit on the couch and she'll jump on my lap. Now I can't even put my socks on without a yorkie on my lap. She runs away from me most other times though. |
this is natural canine play behavior, what they are doing is trying to engage you in play the same way they would with another dog. Dogs don't think like us, they think like dogs and when a dog wants to get another dog to play they start running back and forth until the second dog joins in on the chase and then they start running in circles almost alternating who is in the lead and who is being chased. When you have an only dog I think it happens more often since they see you as their playmate. Lola tries this with me, especially when it comes time to take her out to potty and it drives me crazy. She rings a bell to got out, then runs away when I go to pick her up to put her harness on. I try not to encourage this, so I normally just go and sit on the bottom step of my staircase which is next to the front door, when she sees I will not be playing along she finally gives up and come close enough so I can put her harness on. I make it a point of not running after her if I want to pick her up I use commands, which unfortunately on occasion I have to shout, but she knows I mean business so she will sit down. However I do initiate a lot of play time and will even do a little bit of chase play, but she seems to pick up on that being play time and when she tries to run from me as misbehaving. Let's face it most of our pups are a lot faster than we are, so you will have a hard time catching you dog if it does not want to be caught. That's why I think it is a good idea when puppies are out of their crates to have a lightweight leash on, it make it much easier to catch them when you need to. |
