Do your dogs go nuts when the doorbell rings? Joey and Ralphie absolutely go nuts when the doorbell rings. Gathering them up at that point and putting them in a room is very difficult, they are already hyper. I found an electronic doorbell chime that has many different sounds and thought I’d give it a try. It’s called ichimes, and just installs where your regular chime/bell was installed and works with your doorbell. It has dozens of different sounds as well as a recording device and even the capability to download songs. If there is someone at the door and the dogs don’t know it, I can round them up pretty easily and put them in a safe spot. Right now, I have it on Christmas music and every time I go by it I press the button, so that they are accustomed to hearing the doorbell many times a day and they don’t associate it with the front door. You can have it play one sound over and over or go through a group of sounds. So far this is working great and the cable guy was here an ½ hour before they even knew it! |

very smart! Ours go nuts even when the doorbell on TV rings or someone knocks on TV...ug...lol |

That's a clever idea! Luckily, Acorn hasn't gotten accustom to any barking - but we don't have a doorbell yet! The knocking gets her a little. She does it more when she's around other dogs (when we visit my parents, they have a beagle...enough said!). We move the 16th and get a new puppy the 18th, hopefully she doesn't start showing off and barking at visitors! |

Mine would if we had one. But a knock at the door is just as bad. I know what you mean about trying to rally them away from the door. I remember having a door bell/chime like that when we were kids. It was pretty neat especially during the holidays. So, does it work to calm your pups down when visitors come ? |

What a great idea! Bailey does bark when someone knocks at the door, or even walks by for that matter. If he gets too excited about the door knocking, I get him to calm down, sit, and wait until I have opened the door, said my hellos to whom ever came in, then give him the command to say hello himself. It's too funny to see him sitting, or should I say trying to sit, with all the excitement going through his body and he just shakes. Such a welcoming committee all in one small package. Personally, I don't mind him barking when he hears something, as it alarms me (and hopefully an unwanted visitor/possible B&E) that we are aware they are there. Thinking on getting a 'Beware of dog' sign to post on my door. As a foot note here, to eliminate door to door sales or anyone I don't know, I have put a sign on my door that says 'I don't respond to people I don't know'. I started this last time this year when there are unscrupulous people looking to do a B&E for Christmas gifts. I thought it a good sign, as they don't know if we are home... or not. |

Mine bark at every one and every thing. I wish I could train them to sit and wait but haven't had much luck. Actually, the fact that they bark so ferociously may be a good thing as we live in the country and there is always the danger of break-ins. I don't have an alarm but I do have dogs, and one bites |

I encourage ALL my guys to go into high Alarm, anytime anyone comes to the door. Praises and Treats for each event regardless of who's there ! There have been so many "kick ins" around here, that I just can't take a chance on allowing anyone to think they're not noticed. Given my guys are larger, I'm sure that their hearty voices is advantageous. |

Oh good grief the door bell rings here and you would think I live in a doggie kennel. It seems their barks amplify when the door bell rings. LOL I think this device would cause just as much barking. LOL |

Mine are the same way. We have tried everything to stop this behavior and nothing has worked. I have to have one of those. Thanks Nancy for the great idea. |

Very good idea, Nancy. I did this with my phone, changed it to some horrible music, and the boys ignore it. (the nice iPhone ping doesn't phase them either, so I should get one, lol). The boys go nuts when the doorbell rings. We have baby gates to keep them out of the foyer, so no rounding up necessary. |

OMG, my guys all barked @ the fun sound w/the duck loll! They bark @ door bells on tv & even run to the door...& we don't have a door bell here!:D |
