Tomorrow is the day Bella will be getting spayed and having a couple teeth removed. She seems so little, I hate to take her to the vet and leave her!!!:( |
awwwww she will be ok. it is the hardest thing but just be sure to have them call you as soon as it is over and keep yourself as busy as possible. prayers for a safe and successful procedure for your bella. |
She'll do great, I would suggest some preemie onesies for her to wear while she still has the stitches. Gina's incision, doesn't look like it was done 14 days ago, she wore the onesies until 3 days ago, when the tiny holes from the stitches were closed. Good luck, and please give her the pain meds the Vet gives you, you would take any pain meds, after you had surgery, so don't deny your pup the same. They will be an anti-inflamatory, and will help with the recovery. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
I already have the onesies and I will absolutely give her the pain meds!!!! |
Oh, poor little girl....growing pains are tough! I am going to pray for a good surgery and a safe return to your arms!! |
I know what your going thru Just had stitches out last Friday from my baby . She is 6 months and barely 3 lbs. I laid in bed with her For 2 days cause that is all she wanted was my skin....and it was a good way to hold still.... First day was the toughest.. She smelled so bad....my vet said try to get something in her stomach but just a bit like a half tsp every hour for 4 hours then go from there. She still threw up , I gave her chicken and rice, so then I tried canned pumkin and she loved it , it stayed down and then I went to the chicken and Rice and next day kibble. You can tell when they start feeling better to increase portions.I would try the pumkin first to calm down the stomach... But that first day she didn't even know me :( Also when she seemed interested in nosing around down there my vet suggested 100% Aloe Vera gel to the area to gently soothe and it worked so well.....really comforted her.... I did the onesie too..... Other wards try and keep busy that day, time will fly and you can go get her and baby her like crazy! Good luck! |
It was a tough two weeks for Cookie, as she didn't like her onesie and didn't like being cooped up unable to jump. That first day Cookie puked up everything I fed her, so I was keeping really close tabs on how her gums looked (you always want a nice healthy pink; white is an emergency!). I gave her ice cubes to get some water into her, as my vet recommended them and said if she laps a bunch of water at once she'd probably puke it back up. He didn't give us any pain meds, and Cookie never looked like she needed them. When I first brought her home she was really trying to fight the anesthesia and would just stand still with her head down. After about 30 minutes she finally laid down and relaxed, and slept a lot that day and the next. She really wanted to sleep on top of my blanket and nowhere else. She did puke up her dinner the second day too, but she was ok other than that. By day 3 she was really herself again, and kept begging to go outside to play and run (of course, I listened to the vet and not to the yorkie, haha). |
First of all,I hope your little one does well with the surgery. I just went through this as well.My little Molly is 6 months and we had her spayed yesterday. She also was microchipped and had a few teeth removed. She was very groggy last night and just slept very close to me in my bed. We went to bed about 8:30. This was shortly after I gave her something to eat and drink. They told me I could give her a small amount of wet food and a little water. Thankfully she didn't get sick on me. She's ate a little more today and is holding it down fine. She's wanting to play so badly but I don't want her to hurt herself. They gave me pain meds to do her for a few days. I'm hoping she doesn't think that she can run full force like she's use to. She's wanted to lick her incision a couple of times as well and I have to divert her attention. I took my weeks vacation to stay home with her but I'm worried about her trying to lick at it next week when I go back to work. I saw everyone mention onesies but I'm not sure how she would do with those. I bought her some pjs and she did not like them at all. Any suggestions on getting her to handle the pjs a little better or should I try something else to keep her away from the incision. |
Keep trying the pjs but leave them on for short periods of time , she will get used to them .try the aloe Vera gel , it s a skin soother and will help comfort that area, it worked for me. |

Thanks so much for the advice. I'll try the pjs again and get some aloe vera as well. :):) |
Glad everything went well for you Zoey and thank you for the tips about the pumpkin and the aloe vera. Abby goes Thursday for her spay and to have some teeth removed. They will keep her overnight and I took the day off on Friday to stay with her. |
Awwww You'll be ok , just let them be as close to you as possible.......they do heal fast .. |
Thanks for all your support and advice. I'm pretty nervous. I have 3 other dogs and 2 that passed on. All were/are spayed. I'm just worried because she seems so small. She's not real tiny, she's 6.8lbs. And I love and trust our vet. Just a worried momma. |

Don't over do it They need their naps after this |
She could be a teapot, which would be fine. I kinda hope she stays about this size, she's 10 months old, cause I like to carry her around everywhere I go. |
Thinkin of your little one! I was so happy to have this surgery behind us! Others here recommended noises for Hope & they worked well! |

Gina lost about 3 ounces between the time of her surgery, and when she got her stitches out, she has gained the weight back, and is now close to 4lbs, she's back on track for her target weight. Hopes for a quick recovery, and as Yorkiefan said, not a mommy. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
Yes, never a mommy! Always a baby!!!! |

I am sure she will do fine. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. |
Many of the better breeders recommend waiting for those tiny Yorkies to achieve a better weight before getting them spayed. Because of a prior bad experience I had always gotten my females spayed before their first heat and usually by the time they were 6 months old. While I had several toy bred dogs in the past Gracie was the smallest of any of them. She was still very small at 6 months. We decided to wait until she matured some more before we took her to be spayed. Sometimes size and maturity are better things to consider than just the age of the pet. We went through her fist heat without a problem and when she was nearing 5lbs we got her spayed. She was over a year old. Even though to me she was still very small I went through the horrible stress of taking her to be spayed. It helped that I knew my vet had much experience working on Yorkies, small ones at that. It is always hard to take your baby and leave her or him in the hands of seeming strangers but if you know your vet's experience and expertise level it helps a lot to give you peace of mind. I would recommend to anyone who has a pup that is going to be going in for surgery to talk to your vet and ask those questions. If they don't like answering questions then go to someone else....fast. If the vet thinks they can treat your little one just like any other regular sized pet....run away. The vaccination schedule is not even the same for Yorkies. They should not be given all their shots at once like most dogs get them. If your vet doesn't realize that then they don't have the experience level you are looking for. It is expected for a dog to be groggy when they come home from surgery. The next day should be better and the third day there should be a sizable improvement. A dog not feeling quite a bit better by the fourth day should be reevaluated by the vet. |
Had Hannah spayed and baby teeth extracted on November 8th and at 11 mos. and 5.4 lbs she did great. The 1st and 2nd day was the hardest. She slept alot while I watched. She is back to her normal self. I have to slow her down. Hoping you are picking Bella up soon if not already and hoping for a speeding recovery! |
Bella's home and doing well. Sleeping on my lap. She had 2 teeth removed. |

Glad to hear she is doing well. I know for Izzy I had to keep her wrapped up in a blanket and make sure I got the little space heater out so she would stay warm yesterday. Now today she wants to run alittle bit and when I was looking jumped off the couch. So now I have her locked in her playpen so she doesn't hurt herself. Good Luck with Bella! |
I'm keeping Bella wrapped in her blankie so she doesn't shiver. She's on lap and doesn't even want daddy this evening. |
