How to tell if my dogs a purebred yorkie!? 3 Attachment(s) I just wanna know what to look for because she looks like a yorkie but at the same time it's almost like she doesn't. I bought her from someone that was selling "AKC Yorkies." I got her for 450$. When I went to buy her I didn't see the parents just puppies She is 13 weeks old now. I was just wondering how I could tell. Attachment 393840 Attachment 393841 Attachment 393842 |
Does she have AKC papers? |
She's a yorkie and no offense just not a well bred one. |
I do have the akc papers |
If you're not sure you could have a DNA test done. |
Make sure you get a full check up with your vet including blood work and everything. |

She looks yorkie to me and a very cute one! |
She looks yorkie to me and I think she is darling!!! |
She does look like a yorkie and since you have AKC papers you could always contact them/the breeder if you have any doubts. Or you could have a DNA test done...I think they're around $100...btw she is a cutie! |
She looks all yorkie to me. She's a cutie. |
She looks like she could be all yorkie. Not top quality, you sometimes get what you pay for. Ears are really big and no hair, did you cut the hair? If you are not breeding it won't matter, you must of loved her when you bought her. They go through many stages of development in growing, ears, legs, coat, even their bite will change. She may surprise you...one day you will look back at her puppy pictures and say....really? Love and Enjoy her! |
I am no expert. But, she looks like a yorkie to me. She is really cute. :) |
Adorable little Yorkie. |
if it can't say "eee by gum lass am goin down t shops" in a proper accents then it's not Yorkshire at all |
My intention is not to be mean, I just need to ask, why would you buy on the assumption that she's pure bred, then come and ask. I've often wondered why so many folk appear to do this, so it's a purely serious question |
She looks like a yorkie but like others have said not bred to the standards of a show dog, but for $450.00 you would not expect that. Dogs that come from show type breeders will cost over $1,500.00. She is a cutie though and will change in looks over time. Someone else suggested to have her vet checked including blood work. I did that when I bought my last puppy, not that it ruled out everything but it was nice to see things like her liver numbers were normal. Liver shunt is just one problem that seems to show up in the yorkie breed. The better breeders will test the breeding pair against things like that but the majority of times those that breed for a hobby or for extra cash will not. My pup is a mix and I paid the same as you. Before I fell head over heals for her I had her tested everyway I could, lucky for me her reports came back good, and each year I have them run again and so far at 3 years she is healthy as can be. So needless to say I got way more than I paid for, because to my husband and I she is priceless, I wish you the same luck. And welcome to Yorkie Talk |
Just the fact that they did not let you see both parents would lead me to be suspicious. It is really hard to tell for sure if they are purebred when they are pups. Usually you start seeing possible differences as they mature if they do have some other breed in them. Beyond that, there are a lot of people breeding some really poor quality Yorkies out there. I'm not saying they are not good loving pets but many tend to have features that are not very Yorkie like. So when someone comes here to ask if their pup is purebred it is really impossible to say for sure. The best way to be sure is to know you have a reputable breeder that only breeds the best representatives of the breed. |
Looks like a Yorkie to me Over the years we have owned 7 yorkies over the last 40 yrs & they have all been a little different in size & stature even skull shape varies a little. Yes the ideal Yorkie will have small years perfectly even teeth small head & long glossy coat. But all mine have been pets & not show dogs.I had one yorkie called Bella & due to a breeding fault had no fur on her back ok elsewhere. She was the most loving & inteligent & obedient yorkie we have owned. Here in the UK £300 is the start price normally without KC reged papers £450 & up will get you a pup with papers & £550 up will get you a good representation of desired standard, You will have convert to Canadian dollars to compare. In short she is yours cherish her. Farty |
