while table food is not the best, if your dog does not have any problems it should be ok in small amounts and of course it depends on what your definition of table scraps are. We tend to eat fairly plain, not much in the way of sauces and marinades and nothing overloaded with onions and hot spices. This morning she had some eggs and a tiny piece of bacon, yesterday she had some of my low sodium turkey, tonight we will be having salmon and she will definitely have some of that. She enjoys crab legs and shrimp when we have it. And when I make my various chicken dishes I make a small plain piece for her. I guess most of our table scraps can be found in dog food anyway. But she does not have stomach issues or a weight issue. I really think this question has more than one answer, and there are two keys, know youy dog and all things in moderation |

Joel pretty much just gets fruits, veggies, chicken and eggs but I have to really keep on everyone else to not feed him anything. They listen better now:p |
Just to give you an idea. Presley was fed from the table from time to time. Until his first pancreatic attack at age 7. He is 17 now - but it has cost me over 20k (not even kidding) for his vet care for it these past 10 years. Unfortunately he has it chronically and has flare up now and again even with being on a prescription diet since 7. I will never be so careless as to feed my dog whatever. It was a lessen lived and learned. I would try some different dog foods - there are several good brands and I'm sure everyone here will offer you some great suggestions. |

Our pups are fat enough without it.... They have never been fed table food with the exception of the occasional peanut or few pieces of popcorn or plums. These are the only things that they have ever been given. |
We never feed from the table, but we do give our girls raw carrots and scrambled eggs occasionally. |
I feed my guys daily after the evening meal. I cut a few little pieces of what ever meat we're eating, plus the veggies that aren't consumed, and distribute it in four little bowls for them. Given they have dry out 24/7, it's the only way they get fresh veggies. My new Chi Navi is the biggest pest of all, jumping and dancing for a handout. I DO NOT take credit for her table manners, since she must have been allowed to do that with her previous owner. My three Yorkies wait patiently, but all eventually get satisfied. ;) |
Personally, I am really not fond of my Bailey sitting by me and watching me eat!! It drives me crazy and I can't enjoy my meals that way. I tell him to 'go' and he does, usually eyeing me from somewhere that I can't see him looking at me. Smarty pants! If there is something that I would like to give to him, veggies mostly, and sometimes a tiny piece of meat or some brown rice, I wait til I'm finished and then tell Bailey to go to his bowl. That is the only time I feed him from my plate. Having said that, when I eat an apple and I sit on the couch, I have allowed him to sit beside me. I place a tiny piece (no skin of course, as it may get stuck in his throat) on a towel on the couch which he hoovers up instantly. :D He loves his apples!! As yours, Bailey is not allowed in the kitchen for any reason. YT'ers are very quick, so I would feel terrible if I dropped something that he picked up and may make him sick, or worse, choke. All the best with your furbaby.:):) |
Nope. She has to lay down away from us when we are eating. She only gets veggies and fruits. Jasmin is good. She won't eat unless we say ok. We can drop things on the floor, if we say no she won't touch it. |

We used to feed Megan table scraps, but we don't with Gina. I love onion and garlic, both big no-no's, every time I made scrambled eggs for my wife, I used to save a small portion for Megan, 15 years I poisoned her with onion and garlic, I keep a shaker with my own mixture of salt, pepper, and garlic for cooking with. Gina goes into her x-pen when I'm cooking and we are eating. We also made up a list of foods that Gina can and can't have for my mom, since she watches her when I go to the VA hospital for my appointments. I would check with your vet about what your Yorkie can and can't have, or if they can recommend a good nutritionist. Cheers Quad:aimeeyork |
Absolutely not. |
Nope. My pups get the occasional frozen veggie or fruit but they are crated when we have meals. |
