This question seems to come up fairly often. It seems some dog "experts" think it is wrong to let a dog sleep with you. I have never held that view. Have had dogs all my life and everyone of them has either slept on the bed except for a few big ones that had a bed on the floor next to our bed. Gracie has slept with me since her first night here. I raised 5 kids so keeping a watchful eye on her was no problem for me. She slept right through the night from the start. I can't promise every pup would do that but it is a whole lot easier than listening to a puppy with separation anxiety crying all night. |
I can't sleep unless Puff is close by. Last week I had a terrible nightmare and was screaming in my sleep. I woke up to Puff licking my face like crazy. Once I was awake she looked at me like she wanted to say "jeez, don't yell so loud next time!" |
Jasmin slept with us since day one. I can't sleep without her in bed. |
They don't give me a choice....the other night I got up and went on the couch because Mia was snoring in my ear, Vinnie was growling every time I moved and Mini kept digging at me to roll on my side....I went on the couch and fell asleep, woke up to find Vinnie in the bend of my knees, Mia on my pillow above my head and Mini under me.... |
yes, 4.5 pounds - sleeps with us - king bed - usually ends down a the bottom of the bed because we "disturb" him with pets  when he's trying to sleep |
Awww. I think I will let them sleep with me. Although I had a great conversation with Lynzy which I cannot agree more. Therefore I will place them in crate occasionally so the few times I may want a night to myself. I wont have any protest. (Hopefully) hehe As many of us know. Our dogs tend to make the rules.! |
Thanks 2 all for such helpful thoughts and advice. Now off to finding a reasonable stairs. I really am not finding any luck. So If anyone knows of any custom stairs or ramp. Please let me know. Or some that are at a great price. Then who cares what they look like. I just figure if Im going to spend 100$ on wooden stairs. I can pay someone to make it how I want. To be honest. |
Yes, unfortunately. I wasn't planning on it, but he whines all night, and my husband has to get up early for work. He will walk over to my husbands side of the bed and whine because he knows he will give in and put him up on the bed. I'm going to purchase a ramp and stairs eventually for him, I was told by my breeder that's what she had for him. |

Mine are very similar to this. Very lightweight. Perfect for a very small dog. Easy to move and clean behind. Clunky/hollow sounding when a small body hits them at top speed & my little clutz goes so fast that he slips on the treads sometimes. |
Our wooden ramp was less than $35 and our stairs were $20.00. You don't have to spend lots of money. |
They allow you to sleep with them! We have had Yorkies for almost 35 years. We have 2 now. They both weigh 4 pounds. All of our babies have "allowed us to sleep with them"! After all, they consider it their bed! Ha-Ha... Yes, they are "pack animals". They sleep very close to us. We even changed to a king size bed so that we could have more room. Wrong! My husband and I each still sleep on the side of the bed. Again, they "allow us to share their bed". During the day, they share their recliners with us! But what would we do without them? |
I bought the Pet Steps they sell on Amazon. They are made of plastic and have carpeting on the steps. I notice the price has gone up quite a bit since I purchased mine. When you are looking online for steps always look for the actual height of the steps. Sometimes they picture them as much bigger than they actually are. Some are only actually a foot tall. Measure the height of your bed and figure how tall the steps will need to be. Gracie was 6 months old before she would use the steps. She was really too small to make it up them until that. I had to teach her how to do it since we don't have steps in our home. |
Charlie even has pet stairs to the bed. LOL It's a nice one with carpet on it and everything. I got it on craigslist for $35. It had to have been at least $100 brand new. I steam cleaned it and it is like new. Check craigslist if you are looking for one of those. I seen it mentioned in an earlier post, so thought I'd mention it. |
Thank you. I will most def take a look on Craigslist. I also think it would be a great idea to measure the height of my bed. As well as their couch that I got for them to out in their bedroom. I tried to make sure it was going to be a low profile. Now I just have to get that measured as well. |

I got lucky because I didn't even measure my bed. Just bought the stairs. Pretty close though.... I think I scored with this find and he love it. Uses it everyday. |
