When puppies are teething the ears can go up and down. It is important to shave the hair on the ears to help the ears come up. You can use a small pair of scissors to carefully trim the ear hair if you don't have a small electric trimmer. I use a small rechargeable one. When my pups are teething I add about 1/4 tsp of Knox unflavored gelatin to their food. Many breeders (especially show breeders) will tape their puppies ears to make them stay up. You can do a google search for 'how to tape a yorkie puppy's ears' and you will find lots of information on how to do it. In my opinion it is best to try to get the ears up because I think dogs are less likely to get an ear infection of their ears are erect. Some yorkies just have big ears or thick ears and they won't come up no matter what you do. In that case you just have to love them the way they are. How old is your puppy? Your puppy does look young so most likely if you started working with it's ears now they might possibly come up. Sometimes puppy's ears will not come up until they are almost 6 months old or older. |
