We give Zach his pills with a teaspoon of applesauce. It goes right down. |
I've got two pup on meds/pill form. For Brandi I use to use the pill pocket and she swallowed them hole but they are so expensive at #30 - $7. So I improvised and I figure what is moist and can be smushier enough to hide a pill in. "bread" was the answer, it put the pill in a small amount of bread and roll into a ball. Quincy was not so easy to fool, the bread didn't work as well with him because unlike Brandi he chews his food. . . so I have to first crush the pill and I dab it up with the bread and than roll it into a ball, and Done !! Glad I came across this thread, you all have some great ideas ! |
I just pretend it's something I don't want Toby to have and he's all over it. |

Oh what wonderful memories this brings back. Our first yorkie, Charlie, hated pills. It did not matter what we hid them in, he would not take them. Even when we wrapped them in bacon, he would not fall for it. I guess the fact that we were giving him bacon was a dead give away. (Yes, I now know that's terrible, but was totally ignorant at the time). How I miss that stinker. |

Yup we use cheese -- cottage is good, but I don't eat that kind so rarely have it around the house, so I'll just use a bit of american cheese. He does like pill pockets too, but he doesn't need pills often so I only used them with a friend gave me a leftover bag from her dog who passed away, and he liked them and did not notice the pill! We did use canned food once which worked but was messy for me! |
pills I use fat free cream cheese to give pills or liverwurst. It works every time. |
Makes me laugh at all these creative ways we think of to make the pups take their pills. Anyone have any good ideas with liquid meds?! Pills are so much easier compared to the liquids... I use a syringe to "sneak" it in to the side of their mouth. I can't think of any method that would be more.. pleasant. |
I just love dogs!! They are so smart! little stinkers know our every move. I never thought of watermelon, I'll have to see if my dogs like it. |
