At work - need Feeding help asap please Hi everyone! A driver at work just walked in with a very young Shih Tzu puppy (can't even be 8 weeks...hardly any teeth). He was abandoned at a truck stop. Anyway, help..what can a puppy 8 weeks or younger eat? Help! I can run to the store on lunch. |
Okay, he has teeth but not sharp or anything..I guess that would call it milk teeth |
I think some members have used baby food... or that rice stuff. Rice Cereal? |
What are you going to do with the poor thing? I wouldn't take him into your home without taking him to the Vet.. Terri |
Get some rice cereal, or maybe some baby meat in a jar? Anything that the little guy can eat! Try a variety of items. |
Yeah, my boss lady is going to take it home and by the vet. She gets off work at 2pm so it will work. She doesn't have any other animals either. But until she can get out..he seems hungry as he's gnawing on my finger. (He's asleep right now) I will get that baby food cereal and meat. |
Oh good!! Glad someone will be taking care of this sweet baby. |
Awe...will be following this post to see what happens to this poor baby! Thanks for making sure it eats. |
hope the baby eats....and is ok! |
I would probably get some baby food, just make sure it doesn't have any onion powder. |
I know this isn't idea thing but wet dog food like Cesar puppy food works great on young pups. And gradually mix in some kibbles |
Thanks so much, y'all! I actually did pick up a little thing of ceasar but I got some baby food meat to try first. Just water to drink, right? |
I would just give him canned food and water to drink or you can give some goats milk. The goats milk iks in the baking isle of grocery stores |
Oh, that makes me so angry! You have to wonder what type of person would abandon a small puppy like that. Ugh. |

My boss lady is going to try to post some stuff in the area about it. I have a sneaking suspicion that this wasn't just a drop off. This one is full blooded just from MY non-expert eye. I bet it was stolen or something..I don't know. Not a great pic but look how precious. Sleeping in a box next to my desk here at work: Attachment 391350 Haha..and yes, that is a doggie toy with him..I just happen to keep extra toys at the office and sneak some home gradually for Mandie and Shelby LOL!!! |
I believe that have milk supplement at Petco in the medicine section. |
OMG what a cutie. Shame on who ever left him behind. He is way too young to be pitched out on his own. That's how I got my little Yorkie-Poo...lost/abandoned and very young, too...and freezing cold in mid winter. Goats milk would work, I've used organic half and half for lost and tiny furry babies, too, and you could make a slurry with a little canned puppy food mixed in for now. Bless you for taking care of this baby. |
At 8 weeks, they can eat dry puppy kibbles like Royal Canin. If the puppy is eating, then just water to drink is fine. And have some nutracal or karo syrup on hand in case of an episode of hypoglycemia. |
This is one of those sad, angry, but good feel kind of story. I'm sad such a young puppy was abandoned. Angry that someone would do such a thing. But then... thankful that there are people that care enough to take the puppy in to give him the care that's needed. Thank you to the trucker that brought the puppy in... And thank you MandiesMom and your boss for taking care of him. |
I do not know how i missed this. I am so glad that someone is taking him home. That poor little one. I don't understand why people abandon their pets. Thanks for taking care of this little one. |
How sad. I hope everything went well with puppy today. I would do wet dog food or kibble mixed with water. |

Oh goodness....poor little thing. I will never understand some people!!! Will your boss be keeping it? Is it male or female? It would be hard for me not to have kept it myself. :) Can't wait to get an update in the morning. |
Updating...my boss lady (and good friend) called. Her vet said he appears somewhere between 6 and 8 weeks and seems in good health. He recommended mixing some wet puppy food with kibble. She said he ate good when they got home and she picked up some goats milk just in case. He drank water out of a little dish when he was at work with us and ate a bit. He peed several times in the office and pooped once...looked good...not runny or anything. The family has officially named him, against my advice...drumroll... Pork Chop lol |

LOL...yeah I tried to talk her into BooBoo Bear but her youngest son was determined he was a Pork Chop.I don't see it... lol |
sad what some people do. You wonder if they do similar to their skin kids. Hopefully someone will give him a great forever home. Could be this pup was stolen way to young to be out own it's own |
