I don't have to imagine how scary this was for Jada and you since my Jilly did stop breathing and went limp from choking on rawhide chewie on the way to the vet so I well know the unbelievable fear you went through. It changes you for good! From now on you will look at Jada completely differently, cherish her even more than before and take every precaution that you can - I know. It had to be the scariest time of your life - and thank God you were close to the vet who just happened to still be there and no doubt the adrenaline from the fear of choking plus the rushing her out to the car and to the doc helped dislodge the food. Poor sweet Jada. Imagine if you hadn't been there or had run out to the grocery store to pick up some milk or to the cleaners to get your order!!! Just so thrilled you were there for her and got her help and she's fine. Hopefully nothing like this will ever happen again. Now, stop reliving it as I know you are and try not to put yourself through that over and over - it does you no good. Just try to put it out of your mind and not allow the memory to replay and re-scare you. Kisses to Jada and hugs to mommie for her fast reactions.

I am so glad that Jada is okay. I bet that was scary. I have never had a yorkie that liked to gobble their food, thank goodness. You can put her dry food in a blender and it will grind it really quick. When I wean my puppies I will blend up a container full and just put out a little at a time for them.

I can't even imagine how scary that would be! I'm very glad she's ok.

I'm also going to take the chance to post links to the heimlich maneuver we have. I've printed these and the CPR one and have them out for reference just in case.

Poor little Jada and poor mommy to. I cannot imagine how scared you were, but I thank you for sharing. Kyra is my little piggy to but I really never thought of her choking on her kibble. So glad it all turned out ok.

I am so thankful that Jada is still here with you. What a terrible scare! If these little stinkers would just chew up their food! Faith always chews her food, but once she choked on a kibble. I grabbed her and came into the computer room and to YT where I could see how to do the heimlich maneuver. Thank goodness I had no problems with my computer and was able to find that thread in seconds. I did it and dislodged the kibble from her throat. Whew! Sure scares a person to death. Kisses to sweet Jada and hugs to you!

Gizmo ate like this when I rescued him 2 weeks ago, I think from being starved, and it scared me so much, that I now add hot water to his kibble , let it sit for a good 5 minutes, by then it is just nice and warm and very mushy, then stir and feed with a baby spoon to him .. So sorry you went through that, I can only imagine how scary that must have been.

I know how it feels to see one of your fur babies choking. I remember last summer my Yorkie Zach and my Shorkie Zoe were playing and somehow she got her mouth and teeth stuck on Zach's collar. We had to cut off the collar and by this time Zach was unconscious. We thought he was dead. I laid him on the table and he didn't move. I finally picked him up and he coughed and came around. We took him to the emergency but by the time we got there he was fine. They checked him over and x rayed his throat. They said nothing permanent had happened. He came out with the vet and he was kissing her all over. I guess he was very grateful.

Jada is a rehome too and I think she must have had to fight for her food before.

How often people think that a Veterinary is some sort of throwback in the Medical Profession.

NOTHING COULD BE FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH !

They deserve nothing but our total respect and appreciation for their commitment to the life and well being of our little ones.

To our Vets and their Staff...

THANK YOU !

Wow that must have been so scary. My Gus once choked on shredded chicken. I used to shred my pooches chicken and serve it in 2 separate bowels well Gus being the greedy little thing that he was would eat his as fast as he can so he can steal from Bobbi's bowel. One day he choked so bad. Scared the crap out of me and just as I swooped him up to take him in in must have passed it and he was totally fine but took him in anyway just to make sure he was ok. My fear was that he choked on a bone sliver. But doc said he was fine and to feed by hand when it comes to giving them treats. So glad to hear your little one is ok
