Lola LOVES people, she wants their attention, especially kids. I'm fine with it as long as they don't smoosh her ears or try to take her out of my arms. |

Yorkies can be very one person orientated... Snapping/pawing at your significant other can get totally out of control. Let that other person start holding, petting, giving treats while "you" sort of back off a little. The idea being, that It is shown that good things can come from more than one person. It's possible that you can stop the objectionable actions at some point, but given that they were demonstrated to start with, that animal has already attached. |
there's nothing wrong with requiring people to use a hand sanitizer before handling your puppy, or dog for that matter. I have small bottles that attach to my bags for people to use, AFTER they have asked permission to touch. Never are they allowed to hold, unless they are good friends that I trust. But all my friends are dog people so that's not usually a problem. |
I don't mind touching AFTER people ask, but actually reaching in to someone's bag to get the pup would have resulted in a very ugly response from me... |

I tried relinquishing taking care of him. My SO basically took over 100%...feeding, treats, letting him out...and 2 years later, he still actively participates in taking care of him It definitely helped a little bit, but he still doesn't look at him like a pack leader or an equal to me. |
I've had someone (a girl working in another shop in the plaza) come into the grooming shop I was working @ & scooped up Mimi & took her next door to the hair salon to show her off w/out saying a word to me! I couldn't believe what she just did...I just followed her out like a lost puppy to check up on Mimi. She was so smitten w/Mimi & came by to see her everyday. She never took her out of the shop again & I didn't say anything. Some people get overly excited I guess. I don't mind strangers petting them, but don't take my dog outside w/out my permission, ya know? The ones that always ask for permission are kids. They ask if they bite & I say no, they ask if they can pet them & my answer to them is always yes. |

Once our little ones commit to someone, it's VERY hard to turn that behavior around. I hate to say this, but, it may be something you'll never resolve. Simply too late with any corrective measures (previous owner's lack of understanding where it was going). However, he'll probably never bite very hard... Regardless of how pushy/domineering our little ones get, they seem to be able to keep in mind that we're still the Leaders (you first then your SO). On occasion, this has worked/helped some... Try getting your SO to really ham it up when Princy bites/snaps at him. Tell him to say "OUCH"/cry out loudly, fain crying and just put on a total show ! Be sure not to laugh though, they can "sorta" tell it you're playing around. So make it serious ! It may help also, if you were to fain crying too. This would be a reaction, which Princy is TOTALLY unfamiliar with... It's possible that Princy's nurturing side will emerge (a little or a lot) and he may recognize he's hurting someone, who is part of HIS pack. If he licks your SO (hand/wherever he can access) he's apologizing ;) |
I haven't read all this thread, but posting so I can find it later...I have to give up the laptop...lol! |
he is very cute, I would also have a hard time, but I know to ask |

I don't mind when people pet Bug without asking (although good luck, she is shy and tries to climb up my legs almost every time anyone tries). It's when people grab her and pick her up without asking that really bothers me. She's very small, just under 3 pounds, and could be easily hurt by someone not handling her properly! |
Galen is too friendly. He loves everyone and not afraid of anything. It is hard to for people to understand ask and don't lift him up when he is doing his excited puppy dance |
