I used to carry Zoey in a regular Sling backpack. It's not a very good picture but I think you get the idea..

Zoey likes both but I made the switch because the sling was starting to really hurt my shoulder. If you're planning on using it just occasionally, the sling might not be a problem but if you're like me and carry her every day for our walks, you might consider the 2nd backpack.

Just from a fashion point of view,the word tacky comes to mind.

Can't like that I've actually considered getting one of these for Draco. I'm not a purse person at all. I barely carry my messenger bag out of the car. I like to carry the least amount of things on me as possible. And LA is pretty dog friendly as long as your baby is off the floor just about every non-food/grocery place won't mind. So it seemed like an option, though now I've been looking into back packs to carry Draco in.

That is so ridiculous :eek: and unsafe. I bump my purse into things all the time when I'm out and about. The poor puppy would be beat up and chaffed. I can't imagine a dog that would enjoy being dangled like that.

If I saw someone carrying their wee dog in one of these I'd e tempted to sneak up behind them, cut the straps and steal the dog away to give it a PROPER life where he/she will be able to live life as a dog and not a fashion accessory :(

Actually, the people I know that use this 'type' of carrier love them, and so do their furry babies. One person got one specifically because the baby loved to go with her but had problems with its legs and had to have surgery...but in this type of sling, still got to go everywhere with mommy. The carrier she got does not look exactly like this one but gave puppy the freedom to go with mommy without pain or pressure on the legs, and the model she got actually converts quickly to a lead and harness system for later when the legs are healed, plus can convert back to a sling quickly if the dog gets tired, or there's a crowd of feet, etc.

This model looks 'cooler' for the dog...something that must be taken into consideration in Florida...since it seems to have solid support under the chest, but a strap system above. The support under the chest is the same or possibly better (more complete coverage) than when we carry them with our hands under their chests, and my kids love to be carried that way in my arms. I know mine would love to be toted around this type of carrier, and they are pretty 'buckled in' so it would be difficult for them to 'escape' unless the restraints broke...and you'd have that problem with a 'purse' strap as well.

The disadvantage I see would be only from 'bumping' (doorways, people, etc.) since there is no 'exo-structure' to protect the dog like you'd have with the dog in a purse...which my kids also love...and some of those, like the soft sided, mesh, etc. ones that are cooler for Florida...don't offer much protection either.

Dog is back there just wide-open to whatever or whoever comes along and sprays, splashes, grabs, pokes or grabs for the poor thing. That woman can't even see what is coming! Not all pet encounters on the streets are sweet and gentle. I carried Tibbe into the pharmacy with me a couple months back and he was in my arms, with one leg kind of hanging down and this little toddler came up from behind and grabbed onto his leg, was just about to jerk it most likely when Daddy came to the rescue, grabbing his son's hand and removing it. I didn't even know what was going on until it was happening. Tibbe could easily have been hurt.

This poor little guy in this picture is just down there right at kid level! This is an unsafe item for a dog, especially in the public. Besides that, it looks very uncomfortable and scary just swinging along back there! Terrible idea to make and market these for poor little dogs.

These always look so uncomfortable to me. Plus, why does she even have her dog with her if she's carrying it behind her, like it's not even there?

Sorry...the Sling bag WAS NOT the one I was talking about....I dont think the sling bags are bad~

We use the Fundle that is mesh so she gets plenty of air circulation ,

I don't think i would use this sling thingie behind my back even if it made my butt and legs look that good :D
