Help! Disgusting problem.... Hi. I don't know if anyone else has had experience with this problem, but our little 14-week-old Mia is having bathroom "issues". She has learned to go on the puppy pad, very well, so I am thrilled with that! The problem is that her poo keeps getting stuck to her bottom.:eek: Sometimes it seems like she is straining to go, but I think it is just that there must be poo from the previous BM that is obstructing her elimination. Her poo is soft, but formed, so I don't think it is a constipation problem. Is this "normal" for yorkies? And, if so, how do you keep their bottom clean? (I'm cringing at the thought of cleaning her again. It is hard to get her still long enough to get the dirty job done!) Somebody please advise! |
I would keep her hair trimmed around the area and use a sensitive baby wipe every time she goes poo. |
I agree, keep her little rear end clean. This is sometimes a problem for little pups. You can use a baby wipe or a wet cotton ball. You are correct that a little leftover poop is probably obstructing her next one. |

If you're going to do it yourself, I'd like to suggest you have someone help you hold her. Perhaps distract her with treats so she won't move around so much. You can also use a comb to use as a barrier so you won't accidently hurt her. I also wipe their furry little butts after potty. :D |
I think we have all delt with this problem, Keep the hair cut from around her anus.I use hair clipper's on Luci and that take's care of the problem also do the under part of her tail. Anne/Luci:p |
Thank you, everyone! After I posted, I bathed her and realized there was more than one clump that needed attention. It took me about 10 minutes to dislodge it! Oh.....how.....GROSS! Anyway, once I got it out I took the scissors and trimmed what I could. That was an ordeal! I was on my own tonight, so no-one to help hold her. I think poor Mia was so happy to be clean that she was trying to be on her best behavior. :-) I sure hope it does the trick. I don't want a repeat of that any time soon! Thanks for the advice. Even though I figured it out, it is nice to know that others have dealt with this, and that I'm on the right track. You are a great support network for us new Yorkie mommies! |
Ziva needs to be trimmed often as she is so furry all over;). We also found that certain treats with a gummy composition makes the problem worse. |

Poo sticking happens all the time. (Especially when grandma visits and sneaks her some table food.) If you're trimming with scissors, invest in a small round tipped pair. You don't want to cut anything down there. Also, just remember: When the poo gets stuck to the rump, pick her up ** rear-end facing away from your body ** & just carry her straight to an empty sink. If you have a nozzle sprayer, just spray the hind quarters. It all comes off. Even if she hates bath time, she'll probably be glad you rinsed her.:) Good luck. |
