Are you sure you got everything your clothes/hands came into contact with?
Like your car seats, the couch, your daughter's bed, your purse, toiletries, etc.

I'd probably clean the whole house and all commonly touched items, but I can over react when it comes to germs...

I have first hand experience with this virus. It cost me in excess of $35,000.00 in vet bills saving the litter that became ill...throwing away every single toy, bed, blanket, carrier, remediation of my entire home and yard, because it was on the bottom of my shoes so EVERYWHERE I walked on my property, was contaminated...and I had to shut down my breeding program for almost 2 years. You can go on the internet and read about bleach killing the virus....I was cleaning my entire home with a concentration of bleach that you could smell as soon as you entered my home, especially my pups crates where they sleep.....and it did NOTHING to kill the parvo virus! To be successful with bleach, you must get every single speck of any waste, vomit, pee, etc, scrubbed up first....then you have to clean the area with the bleach solution, which must thewn sit for 15-20 minutes, then you need to rinse thoroughly......you need to get on line and order Virkon to do your cleaning with. You dont need to rinse it, you let it air dry, it is harmless to pets once it is dried, and it kills instantyly, on contact....you can disinfect a pile of poop, no need to clean every single speck of waste up....of course, you would not spray it over filth, but if you happen to miss any little drop of pee or vomit, when you spray the Virkon over it, it kills the virus immediately. I DO NOT recommend bleach to disinfect your area. If you bring a new baby into a contaminated area where you have missed one spot of virus, you are exposing your unporotected baby to parvo.....and your pup is not protected until 2 weeks after its last vaccination. How serious do I take parvo now? I put my home on lock down when I have new babies on the ground....NO ONE IS ADMITTED TO MY HOME, INCLUDING FAMILY! My new owners are not allowed to come see their baby until after their second vaccination. My females are given NeoPar a week before they are bred to provide super immunity against parvo to the babies....the litter gets NeoPar shot at 4 weeks of age, to again super protect them until vaccinations start at 8 weeks of age. I wash my entire home (where ever the pups are allowed to walk) and laundry daily with Virkon, and the floors and walls and crates are wiped down weekly with Virkon. I do not play around with parvo and I would suggest you really recognize and respect how deadly and dangerous and contageous this virus is. You have been thrugh hell loosing a baby to this terrible disease....I pray you do not let another baby get exposed to this virus.....Vets and kennels across the country use Virkon....it has cut down substantially on parvo in facilities that house numbers of dogs....

I have never taken him to a dog park (none in my area) but would actually be a little frightened to do so after reading about how virulent Parvo is. I just read through your update thread and once again, my coworkers think I'm nutters, crying over the computer. I am glad you are getting a new pup & can't wait to see pics! So sorry for your loss & congrats on the new baby!

I am thrilled something I shared about parvo, made an impact on even one other person! At the vet, I spray the exam table with Virkon and I even bring a sheet when we go to the vet, to cover the exam table. I cover the scale, and I bring my own thermometer. I wait in the car until we are ready to be seen, and then we go straight into the exam room....taking a healthy dog to the vet, where you have sick animals hanging out, walking around, owners cirrculating around petting all the other animals....NO THANKS!!! These Pet stores where dogs are allowed to run around, as a time bomb waiting to happen.....you have NO idea what diseased dogs are walking around in there! If my fear of parvo, and some of the steps I take or activities I avoid because of my experience with parvo, helps keep even one other pup from getting this disease, I feel like that is one battle we have won against the disease! I am praying the OP has wiped ecery single place down and that the new baby does not catch the disease from something she missed in her cleaning!

You walked in to the breeders home. That home had Parvo in it. You then sat in your car, your feet touched the carpet in the car. Your hand touched Lola. then your hand touched the inside of the car. Every time you now go in and out of your car, you risk coming in contact again with the virus and bringing it back in to your home. It can live for months on surfaces. A toy gets dropped on a contaminated surface and then gets taken to another room...the virus spreads...

Your other dogs have been fine because they are hopefully fully vaccinated. But the Parvo virus can take anywhere from 4 -14 days from infection to symptoms.

Please, please use an abundance of caution before you risk bringing an unvaccinated pup in to your house. I would hate to hear you had lost another pup so young.

If it were me, I would definitely consult the vet, and ask the breeder if they could keep her a little longer because of the circumstances.

Where do you buy Virkon? I did a quick search, but I only see the tablets & powder. Is there somewhere you can recommend to buy the spray?

OMG Those carts are so nasty, I will tell you from firsthand experience.

I use to work at the Banfield in Petsmart. You don’t even know how many people brought their dogs into the hospital in a Petsmart cart. The owner says “ they are vomiting, bloody diarrhea, etc”. Sure enough they all tested for Parvo. You wouldn’t believe how many came in sick and dying in a cart. I never once witnessed Petsmart throwing carts away, or even cleaning them for that matter.

To this day I never ever put Peanut in a cart, vaccinated or not-

Poor husband, that smell is just awful- it is like nothing else in this world.

We found a stray that caught parvo 40 years ago. I can still close my eyes and recall that smell. Thankfully she survived. But her vet bills cost my parents a fortune.

Yikes!! Yes treatment is beyond expensive. Once you smell that distinct smell, it will never leave your mind.

I've had experience with Parvo and if I were you would not even be thinking of getting a pup right now. I don't mean to still your joy but this virus is so deadly so why take a chance on exposing a pup to it? Parvo can stick around for years. Your experience with Parvo was very short lived. Trust me had you had Lola for a few more days your mindset would be different. Your other dogs were probably exposed to it and if older can carry the virus with little or no signs.

I would wait too... a virus is not considering living species they need a host to replicate. ..but they can survive outside a host for a certain amount of time depending on the virus. ..research the virus itself n take it from there

There is no way i would bring a new pup in my home right after one died of parvo. Iwish you luck your gonna need it. They say you should wait a year

Where can I get Virkon? Granted Rasta won't be going anywhere but the vet til he's 18 weeks but I would especially need it there!
