Is your yorkie a barker? Leiloni is not a barker at all. The only time I ever heard her bark was when she was trying to get her ball from under the sofa and couldn't get to it. But even that was more like a squeaky toy sound and not a bark. She is now 5 months and from what I remember of Gus, he was a big time barker at a very early age. I'm not complaining one bit because I do know that these little ones are big time barkers and just want to know if anyone else has a nonbarker |
The Mandie is not what I would call a barker. Her big brother sure is, but she's not. She doesn't even really join in when he does. The only time she gets going is if it's the middle of the night and there is a sudden noise outside or something like that. ...OH!Or if a dog is barking on tv lol |

Both of boys do not bark often, my lab is the barker. They usually only bark when all the neighborhood dogs get going, or something startles them. |
I encourage my guys to bark. But I have 2 mature Yorkies (been with me since puppies) that "guide" a newcomer as to what and when. They're praised highly when alarming at the right thing, and not so much, when it's not important. Ickey (my new Yorkie Pup) is chiming in respectably, and Navi (Chihuahua Rescue) even has joined in on occasion. She's not exactly clear at this time, just what to bark at. It's kinda funny, my Yorkies are all rather robust animals, and hearing Navi's rather mild bark, always makes me laugh. |
Oscar is not a barker. He is so quiet sometimes i forget he is here..:D |
Yes, Morgan is a barker// working on getting him to stop when I tell him to |
So far Lola only barks when she's talking (give me that! Let me chew your fingers! Play with me!). When someone's at the door she'll sit there and cry. She'll get alert when she hears something weird, but won't make a noise. I wish she'd bark when people are at the door. |

Callie is not a barker at all if she wakes up before me most of the time she will just sit there and stare at me until I wake up sometimes I will get a little deep woof just one but she has gotten lazy and will sleep in until 12 . I know if she does bark though that some thing is wrong because she just doesn't do it so I always go running to find her. |
Tibbe barks a lot in the house but not so much when he's outside. When I first got him, he barked at first, then went quiet for a few months before he resumed barking. He's not a yapper nonstop but I do let him bark at things he sees out the window or strange noises he hears. |
I actually thought your question was rhetorical! I thought all Yorkies bark. Max likes to siren off all the time. He barks during walks, looking out the window, or even just hearing the slightest noise sets him off. And it's piercing!! Cooper only barks when Max is barking and then barks in Cooper's face to get him to join in the chorus. |
Izzy never ever barks :D |
Hot Rod never used to be until my neighbor got her yorkie(s) and the neighbor on the other side got hers. Now he will bark at people walking across the front of the house and he will bark at the birds flying in the yard. lol It's kinda funny cause we have barking sessions throughout the day where I will join them. Strange I know, lol, Hot Rod will bark and Maggie May will wake up barking, it's so hysterical. She has noooo clue what she's barking at. I chime in and we all just sound so ferocious. :D |

Cookie is a barker, but not to any kind of annoying level. More like barking when we play or when she sees our neighbor's cat or when she's getting a treat (most of the time the treat is just her kibble, but she loves to be fed it like a treat; Minnie was exactly the same way). |
Abby rarely barks. Sometimes she will bark when she hears me come home, but that's about it. She alerts at noises and runs to the door if someone knocks, but doesn't bark. We have dogs behind us that bark all the time, but she ignores them. |
Is my yorkie a barker? Oh YES! Uni's usually barks when she's playing or needs or wants something. Toto.... LOL he barks whenever he gets the chance! |
Nena wasn't a barker untill Rufus joined our family :D Now they bark together :D (Rufus starts and Nena follows) |
Lexi is 7 months and only barks when she wants us to play with her (She is saying Mommy and Daddy get on the floor and play with me!). Other than that she is a very quiet well behaved little girl. Even when someone rings the bell she doesn't join in with my Chihuahua (at least not yet)! |
Zoey more of the barker than Magnus. She barks at everyone/thing except for my parents and myself. She even barks at family members that visit often but settles down faster than she would with strangers. She will go into crazy mode if she sees any dog come too close. Magnus on the other hand will bark if he wants to play and you're not paying attention to him. He also feels he's entitled to some sort of acknowledgement from ANYONE that walks by where ever we go. He gets very upset when he doesn't get petted and barks his head off... |
Thanks for all for your input. I will be just fine either way. I was just taken back because she is not vocal whatsoever when these little guys are known to be little yappers. It could ever well be she is still too young. |
I wouldn't say Draco is that much of a barker. At home the only time he barks is when I leave wooden door open but not the screen door because I'm checking the mail or taking out the trash and he wanted to come. He doesn't barker when I leave for good though and lock up. He does this little yelps/low barks when he's playing or trying to get my attention but it's not constant. Other than that he's pretty quiet. The only time he got really yappy was when my I was at my moms and her friend visited with her dog. He wanted to play but she got tired of him after a while lol. |
Billi is mostly quiet... She might give a protective bark or two when Mick comes home at night, but stops quickly when she see's who he is or when I tell her "enough". Unfortunately we live with Mick's daughter's dog who's a pomeranean named Martini & she barks constantly! She's gone off on 10 minute long barking sprees just because Mick farts too loud (I guess it's funny now, but at the time!) If someone comes over, she's growling & barking almost the entire time. Now she's got Billi joining in on it & I'm not sure how to stop it. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Martini lately. |

That sounds like Ichabod, he's fearless, but, big enough (at 8 lbs) to actually do something if he caught anyone. :D I don't' know if you're actually interested... But you need to teach him to "speak" first. Then when he goes to the door, give him the command, and praise him when it's performed properly. For some Dogs, it's like any other Trick, and can be quite a valuable "tool". I rely very heavily on the security my animals provide for me. |
Some of mine are real barkers and some are not. My 14 year old Sassy mainly barks in the morning to wake us up. As soon as the sun comes up if we are not already up she will sure let us know that it is time to get up. Some of my others bark when they think they have a reason, like if they see a cat walking around in the yard. They love looking out the windows for activity outside. Of course if anyone knocks on the door they all go nuts. |

Amy does bark but she is more of a talker. When she wants attention or has to go outside she will sit in front of you and talk up a storm. Can't even explain the noise she makes but she keeps getting louder if you ignore her. It is sort of like arararar. It is very comical but she does get her point across. |
The only time Willie barks is when his toy goes under the couch. |
chester is not unless he hears something or someone is at the door, and stops quickly |
