Add us to the list - We use wee wee pads too ! And it has worked wonderfully !!! My Reese is 10 weeks old and is being trained on the pads - they work so well ! And since our babies poo is so small, you can just fold up the pad throw it in a bag and throw it away ( well, I throw it outside, then put it in the garbage can ). But last night we went to my MIL's house and brought a puppy pad, placed it in her laundry room, showed Reese where it was and she went poo and pee there ! So she is getting the idea :-) Great question by the way ! And congrats on your new addition !!! :)

Cali is 6 months old and completely we wee pad trianed, my 8 year old pom is trained outside as she is big and fluffy abd can take the weather. i love having Cali wee wee pad trained it is a lot easier for me and she trained really fast!

damn you all are soooooooooooo lucky my baby still hasnt peed on the damn pad...lol....lol...i think when she does i am going to throw a pee pad party...lol....lol...

I do it too and Brutus will only go on the pads. He refuses to go outside. Pee pad training was one of the many things I loved about this breed. I never have to walk him! :animal36

I trained my pups to go on the pee pad....(my parents and sister think i'm crazy) but the new adopted parents have thanked my over and over again plus the one that we kept is only 2 lbs and its really cold here in Wisconsin so its great that she has an alternative to going outside....on the Cat issue... we have two cats... and they get along great with our Yorkies but do beware ....they love the litter...not somuch the litter but whats in the litter...its dogs favorite treat!!!! Has something to do with cat food and whats in it that makes cat poo so yummy to dogs. Welcome to YT!!!

I think there was a misunderstanding of my post earlier in the thread. My yorkie doesn't use a cat litterbox... He has one of his own... an actual dog litterbox with dog litter that is made of pelletized newspapers. It is really convienient! I would never think of using a cat litterbox, especially if it was shared with a cat.... YUCK! If you are thinking about a litterbox... check out petsmart! It is the Second Nature dog litter system!!! Wonderful!

OK...great everyone....so we all agree these wee wee pads are great....BUT...how do you train the babies to use them exclusively ?????
I have 6 Yorkies and not a one is trained ! They do use the wee pads, I keep one upstairs and one downstairs...but they also go on the carpet in the living room and family room...they go anywhere there is a scatter rug or something soft on the floor ! All I do all dayis mop and clean and then mop and clean some more..... :mad: :mad:

One of my Yorkies best friend is a kitty cat. Never had problems with her getting into the litter box though.

Congratulate your parents for me for a job well-done. Yorkies can be the most obstinate dogs in the world to train. Seems like they did everything right and she trained quickly.
And, BTW, congrats on being a new Yorkie mom. Your life will never be the same...

I tried the pee pads for my Maddie, but she refused to go on them. I even tried putting them in the garage so when the weather is really cold, she could just go in there, but she insists on doing her thing outside! I wish she was pee pad trained...just to keep her from being out in that frigid cold in the winter! Congrats on your new baby!

My girls both are pee pad trained and I love it. As several others mentioned, they did like to shred them until I switched to the washable kind. They are great! Just thought I would mention that!

I have been buying these weewee pads at 200 an order.They seem to be less expensive at Pet Edge then anywhere else. We go through so many here. I have the washable ones for when we travel and I put them on the floor of their crates. They really are wonderful and wash very well.

My problem is they all go on the pads and everywhere else !~
If anyone has any suggestions to get them to use them exclusively I sure would welcome hearing them. ;)

my yorkie toby is a year and 9 months old.. it took us over 1 year to sucessfully house break him. at first we started him on wee wee pads, but then i really wanted him to go exclusively outside, b/c pads were becoming expensive, and i didn't like them on the floor. We started to bring him outside every 3 hours on the dot. my husband works at home, so it was easy enough for us to do. and btw he's 4 pounds and fine with the cold weather.

He also peed on everything.. carpet, our bed, his bed.. and the trick is to catch them in the act... the second you see the little one start to pee, you yell NO! and you bring them outside or on the pad.. if you find the pee afterwards, dont' even bother to yell, they won't get it. (might be hard to do with 6 yorkies)

now whenever he needs to go.. he runs to the door, gives a little bark, and we let him out. when we were going out, we used to gate him in the kitchen and leave him a pad.. now, we give him free reign of the house, with a pad or two..and most of the time he holds it anyway.

stick with the training either way. you dont' want your whole life to be cleaning up pee. and when they are properly trained they are a joy!!

we also have a cat, and have no experience w/ toby getting into the litter and eating his poo..i think i would die if he did that!!
