Guess who had a dog in a parked car with windows open a little? A K-9 Unit!!!!!!!! I took Ian to the vet, and parked next to this car. No one was inside, and the car was OFF! We got to the vet early, and that dog was in there for at least 15 minutes. No telling how long he was there before I saw him. The vet tech said that the officer was with another dog who was being seen by the vet.:mad: Temp is 86* |
I would have gotten the plate number and reported it to his boss. |

:( Holy crap! You'd think he'd know better! :( |
I was at the grocery store last wed. and a dog was in a car alone with 4 windows cracked. Some ladies- yes, a group of them all with white hair- crowded around the car. The dachshund was barking it's poor little head off. One lady got water and was pouring it into the window-:eek::eek:. And setting the car alarm off. I went back into the store and asked them to call the owner on the store intercom. They did, but the ladies had already called the police. ;) That owner was going to face both the police and the wrath of those ladies when they returned to their car!:thumbup: I wish I could have stayed, but I had frozen food that I didn't want to melt, so I left before the fireworks happened. |
Unbelievable! I would have called it in too. I have seen dogs left in cars on warm days at our vet office. Why bother vetting if you are going to leave the dog to potentially die in the car? :( |
I actually took a picture of the car, so yes, I have his plate number. I found a pay phone, and reported it! Unreal! |
:thumbup::thumbup:Good for you!!:thumbup::thumbup: |

Unbelievable, of all people!!! So glad you reported it! :thumbup: |
I read in the paper last week that a police dog died when he was left in the car by his K-9 handler, and I think it was in Kennesaw, GA. Well we do have more than our share of idiots!! |

I see that here all the time, the dog left inside the k-9 unit, but it was in the cooler months. Good for you for reporting it, hope he won't do that again to his partner. |
So glad you reported it! :thumbup: |
If the office staff was aware that the dog was out there in that heat they were also negligent for not intervening on behalf of the dog. Probably to intimidated by the uniform. |
Next time, and if anyone sees things like this, PLEASE TAKE A PIC with your phone and send it to me. I'll post it in my .edu blog (HIGH visibility). |

:mad: Totally ridiculous. There was a new report of a similar situation where the K-9 was not so lucky. The dog was found dead in the back of the officers car. So very sad and there is absolutely no excuse for it. I do believe her is being charges but I may be wrong. You did the right thing. Very glad you reported it! |
Good for you! I'd also contact the media to help bring attention to it and serve as education on the dangers of leaving pets (and people) in the car. :wink: |

Thankfully I have never actually come across any dogs left in hot cars because I WOULD smash a window to release the dog and to hell with the consequences :mad: A dog's life is a million times more important than a car which is, after all, just a lump of metal to get us from A to B. |

I just love how they call it an "accidental death". Accidental my bohonkus. Ignorance is not the same as stupidity. That officer was plain stupid. How does a K9 officer "accidentally forget" that his partner is in the car? Unbelievable. |
Good for you for reporting it. He should have left the car running if he wasn't comfortable taking them both in at the same time. |

If I were you, I'd follow up with a call to his superior - just to double check the message got through to the right person. Just unbelievable :mad:! |
