Khloe was almost attacked!! This weekend I went up to Seattle with my parents and my husband to help my grandparents move some things into their new house. Their old house burnt down last summer, and the new one is almost finished, and they needed help with some of the larger items. It was about 9 pm and we were walking out into the garage (which was open) to get into the truck. We didn't bother to leash the dogs because we were only walking about 10 feet and were going to head straight to our hotel. This is when I heard the dogs from across the cul-de-sac come running toward us. I started yelling "no, no, no!" and grabbed Couver because he was within arms reach. My mother grabbed her yorkie Zoey, but we weren't able to snatch Khloe up before the dogs were in the driveway. The two dogs then started chasing Khloe (who was yelping and screaming for her life). The owner was shouting "They are friendly, they are friendly!!" but we were all freaking out trying to catch Khloe who was scared to death. She ran all the way across the cul-de-sac, around the truck, got cornered in the garden and then finally into the open door into the house. We were all screaming and trying to catch these dogs who were chomping at her while chasing her. I thought she was going to die! These were 50-60 pound dogs chasing my 5 pound dog. My grandfather (an 80-year-old man), grabbed a 1" x 2" piece of trim that was in the driveway and was able to swat one of the dogs and it started to leave. The other dog continued to chase Khloe into the house. She obviously found a hiding space because the dog came running out to its owner and Khloe was no where to be found. My father was eventually able to coax her out of her hiding place and was then holding her. Get this, so the male owner, who made no effort to even leave his yard to get his dogs back started yelling at us for hitting his dog! His dog was going to kill my dog, and he thought it was not okay for us to hit it?! He said "How would you like it if I hit you with a 2x4?" WTF (where did he see a 2x4?) He kept threatening to hit my husband but wouldn't come off of his front stoop to talk with us. He obviously saw the size difference between him and my husband and realized he wouldn't stand a chance. He ended up going inside after his gf forced him to, but it was NOT fun. After just having my dog chased around the cul-de-sac, he had the gall to get after us? I just don't understand people. My dogs did not come onto his property and bother his dogs... His dogs came running after mine and my family members were not only worried for the dogs' safety, but for their own! I know this all could have been prevented if we'd carried them, so I'm kicking myself. I'm also mad that I could not catch the other dogs OR Khloe. My husband tried tackling one of the dogs and ended up with blood all the way down his leg. We had 5 adults plus the female owner all trying to get these dogs to stop. None of us could catch them and she had absolutely no control over them. They didn't have collars on, so they were like wet eels in our hands. I wanted to call the cops, but my grandfather insisted that I not. He is just moving back into his house and doesn't want to cause a disruption. I do however plan on calling Animal Control on Monday to report the aggressive dogs. I just wanted to post my experience to let people know how quickly these little guys can be taken away from us. Khloe could have lost her life and it would have been all my fault. Please take extra care with your babies and I hope that no one has to experience what I did... Watching my baby scream for her life, running as fast as she could to get away. I am crying right now thinking about what could have happened and if this makes even one person more cautious with their babies, it was worth posting. |
OMGosh Michelle...how scary is that!! Thankfully Khloe is alright...I would have lost my mind...the gall of some people!! |
oh crap!! wow! Your poor grandparents... after all they have been through to have to now live accross the street from that! I am sure there has to be some regulations about dogs off leash etc .. but that does not really help that much. I am so very glad your family and all the dogs are ok. I hope there is some way to prevent this happening again. It at least sounds like the girlfriend or wife whatever tried to help. Maybe now that they know another dog is living nearby they will be more careful. Good luck.. and tell your grandparents happy they are almost ready to have their new house! |
Wow that is just ridiculous. I cant believe that the man blamed it on you and your dog, really! I am so glad that your baby was not injured and don't beat yourself up over it, none of what happened was your fault. You had every right to have your dogs on your/your g.parents property off leash. I hope you follow through with the report to animal control. |
Oh my gosh! What a nightmare! I'm so glad that everyone is okay---or are they? You said your husband had blood running down his leg. Did he get bit? And I would definitely notify animal control. That doesn't need to happen again. |
This happens ALL the time....all it takes is one second for another dog, or a coyote, or a wolf, or a bear, or a hawk, or a snake.....you name it, it is lurking there, just waiting for the chance to use that one second, that 10 feet to the car, that 15 feet to the back door, to make a meal of these babies. I have an owner that absolutely REFUSES to carry her baby to her car when they are going someplace...."it is just to the driveway, it is only about 15 feet, been doing it since we moved here, blah, blah, blah......and some day, "it" will happen and her little dog will pay for "it" with her life. PLEASE, dont put your babies in dangerous positions.....you will kick yourself for the rest of your life if something happens, just because it has never happened before, and it was only 15 feet......Thank God your baby did not have a heart attack as she was running for her life.....my cousins little dog went thru the same thing, and that baby had seizures from fright.......sooooooooooo tragic and uncalled for. As far as that man with the rogue uncontrolled dogs.....he is very fortunate that did not happen in MY cul-d-sac, to me and my babies.....I would have shot his dog.....sorry. NOW, mister, get upset....... |

Oh my, I'm glad Khloe is ok and could hide from the dog! That is so scary! I can't understand how the man just stood there doing nothing! That is unbelievable! |

I thought the same thing too... I'm not big on guns, but if I owned a gun, that dog would have been history. |
Thank goodness Khloe is OK. I was nervous just reading what happened. The owner of the dog should man up and take responsibility for his dog being off his property. And he should also apologize to your family. I'm glad Khloe is allright. |

Hopefully Animal Control will take care of the rest. |
OMG! I'm so glad Khloe is okay! Also be careful the next time she sees these dogs... she may recall the first time and could still suffer a heart attack! |
Oh my gosh! I'm so glad everyone is alright. I know you were terrified. What I worry about is your grandparents walking their dog. What if those maniacs come after them? Even if they scoop their fur baby up those dogs could hurt one of your grandparents trying to get the pup. |

Oh no I am so sorry to read this. I just think WTH is wrong with people. I am so glad that you all are fine. I do certainly hope that Animal Control will do something about those dog's. |
I'd have done the same as your granda. Glad she's okay |
God I hate people like that, and it seems like so many of them own pit bulls. We have some idiots in my neighborhood who let their cats run free and I had to jump in and save their cat's life one time when it came into my back yard and was about to get killed by my 12 lb yorkie Minnie (RIP :( ). Minnie had the cat cornered after digging her claws in and ripping said cat off my back fence when she tried to run away from Minnie (Minnie was so deceptively athletic). |
Michelle, I am relieved that Khloe escaped unharmed! I can imagine how terrifying this ordeal was for you, your family, and little Khloe. How frustrating that the loose dogs' owner never left his porch to try to control his dogs, and that he had the nerve to say they were friendly. I have been in that situation several times. I don't trust anyone who is foolish enough to think an off leash dog that has such poor recall is going to run up and just sniff my little furballs. People are ridiculously irresponsible, and it is infuriating to think that their carelessness could cost the life of your little girl or others. Then to threaten your husband on top of it all! This is a growing problem everywhere. :( We cannot walk in our neighborhood anymore, not even with one dog at a time. After running into the gigantic guard dog on the loose, no way. |

I never walk the dogs alone, but this makes me wonder how safe it is even with my husband. It is sad that we have to be afraid of loose dogs because their owners are irresponsible. Those dogs were far from friendly. They saw Khloe as a snack :( |
That is so scary! My mom lives next to people who have 4 St Bernards that escaped from their fence one morning when we were outside with her Cavalier. I remember looking up and seeing one coming right for us-i was next to her dog. The next second they all had mom's dog on the ground and she was screaming. I managed to get between them and grab her and ran for the garage. It was terrifying! Everybody was OK, which was a miracle in itself. It reminded me how fast things can go wrong, even in your own yard! |
I have found that if I walk Sapphire in a brightly colored dress, one of the neighborhood PB pups who usually gives chase sat there baffled and just watched us go by. I can't guarantee that this works for all dogs but maybe it's something you could try... |
How awful! Poor Khloe :( Please stop kicking yourself, it wasn't your fault in the slightest! That owner should have controlled his dogs and apologized for what happened, his behavior was unacceptable! At least you and your babies are safe, in the end thats all that matters. |
Sorry to hear you had to go through such an ordeal...happy to hear it had a good ending. Make your report to the authorities, maybe something will be done about them running loose anyway. |
Thank goodness Khloe is ok. Poor baby to be so scared! Makes my heart hurt to think about her being that scared. It's a shame when people don't control their pets. I hope you husbands knee is ok and that your grandparents are ok after such a scare. |
I just can't imagine how I would have reacted after the fact. I mean I consider myself very calm and collected and can easily walk away without feeling like I have to defend my ego when some idiot is trying to push my buttons, but I just can't imagine how angry I would be in your shoes over coming that close to losing your girl. One thing that might work in the future if you have someone with you to grab your dog is to charge the other(s). I had a pit jump a fence and come at me one time when I was walking down an alley as a teenager; I knew I had no escape so I just ran at it full speed really aggressively shouting angry curse words and the dog turned around and ran like hell away when he saw me coming at him. |

As for how to react, we didn't have a chance to react. They were so quick! They were at the driveway before we knew it. Thankfully we were able to grab two dogs. I cannot imagine what would happened if all three of the dogs were on the ground. |
Oh my goodness, Michelle! What a terrifying set of events. Bless your heart! Bless that run like the wind, Khloe! That girl can haul if she has to huh? That's good to know for sure. I felt your torment as I read your post. I was crying right with you at the end. I could feel that angst of "what if?" Big BIG Hugs!! Cuddle your babies close tonight and get you some extra Yorkie kisses to fall asleep to, ok? Please keep us posted on what Animal Control says/does. |
Just think how sweet tomorrow is going to be, Michelle. You'll be able to kiss and hug Khloe after coming so close to losing her. I know one of the best days of my life was the day after Minnie almost died from her kidney problems. Vet kept her overnight and pumped IVs into her and I got to come and visit with her for a few hours. I mean that was just true happiness to get another day with my girl when I thought she was gone. And you know that true happiness too with Khloe. Just shows you can never take life for granted. |
Wow Michelle. I am so glad everyone is safe. It is so bad to say but I can believe what those people did. Of cause they are going to blame you. They want to scare you. They don't want you to call the police. Pick up each one of your babies and squeeze them a little tighter and kiss on the head. |
Smart little Khloe finding a good place to hide. No doubt saved her life! Don't feel bad about not carrying them - everybody forgets or lets their guard down once in a while, especially when such a short distance is involved. I'm just so sorry you were scared to death and upset by the terror of being so helpless there for a while and sorry that jerk of a neighbor didn't take responsibility for his own dogs' actions. What in the world were wild dogs like that doing out off leash? Yorkies off leash can't hurt a fly but big dogs are a whole other kettle of fish. This is the world we live in now and all I can say is there are times when all these dog-owners everywhere are beginning to make life a living hell for small-dog owners! And we can't count on anything legislatively being done obviously so always being on guard I guess is the only thing to do and that really sucks too. But doggie parents are like parents of little kids these days and apparently we can't afford to relax ever when out of our house or yard with them. That is our new reality - wild dogs seemingly everywhere out and about to devil our peace. Again, I'm just so very, very glad nothing awful came of this except your shredded nerves. Have a little wine or 1/2 a mild tranquilizer tonight and see if that won't take the edge off so you can relax and rest. |
