They getting rid of yorkie My niece text me and said her friend has to "get rid of her year old male Yorkie" Her words not mine. I told her I have never had a male dog and didnt know if my two females would accept him. He has not been nurtured, So I told her I didnt think so, besides I am on my way to NY this week. This lady is worried her Dobbie will kill him, she isnt charging a penny for him. Now I have been thinking of this little guy, there are many back yard breeders and puppy mills that would snatch this guy up in a min. I would hate to see that happen just because I dont know anything about male dogs. My girls were spaeded (fixed) at the age of six months so there is no fear of babies. My guestion is, if he is nurtured now will this stop him from wanting to hump the girls? Another thing is will he come in and lift his leg to mark everything in the house. He is supposely housetrained. I just dont know what to do. I can see all these awful places he can end up. Flea market, family with six little kids, (he is only 5 lbs) put in a cage for the rest of his life . Should I take him? Or let him take his chances? My neice said I have first choice, and she will keep him till I get back in a week, |
I will try my best to help: He might hump for a little while after the he is neutered but it usually starts to go away leading to the very rare hump. Be warned though, the girls might try to hump him instead as a dominance thing!:p If he is house trained he shouldn't lift his leg in the house, if he does sternly tell him no and keep on him. It should stop after he is neutered. I'm just speaking from experience with my male, but other members might be able to give better information. As for if you should get him, that is only for you to decide. Maybe visit him and see how he is? I hope this helps and good luck with your decision! |

The worst case scenario YOU hand him over to a rescue? I would give it a try, we will be here to help you along the way... |
Great advice above. Get him, and worse case scenario, bring him to a Yorkie rescue. Poor boy. At least the family had the sense to be concerned that the other dog in the house might hurt him. |
From what I'm reading, I think it's better for you to take the pup. When the pup is in your hands, you can choose to either keep him or find a good home for him and take the necessary steps (neutering etc) to make sure the pup gets a good home and a good life. I have a male yorkie and he doesn't mark in the house nor hump my girl. It all depends on the way the pup was raised. |
I have two young boys ( 1 year 3 mos and 1 year 8 mos), both are neutered, neither raised their leg in the house ever. We have 2 girl pups staying with us right now and neither boy tries to hump them, although P-Nut has a blankie he tries to hump once in a while. :) Boy yorkies are awesome love bugs!!! |
I agree... he needs to be safe. You are great to help this sweet little guy! |
Take him |
I have two males (one Yorkie, one German Shorthair Pointer.) Neither are neutered, neither hump anything, neither mark in the house, neither are aggressive. If I were you, I take this boy in in a heartbeat. Best of luck in whatever you decide, though. |
Is this boy in Alabama? PM me if you can't take him. Prayers the right answer for you comes. Praying for this boy! |
If i was you I would take that little one in a min. Boys are so sweet. I think everyone will adjust to the arrangement especially that he is a male and you have two females. I would say go for it. You have a whole group here for support |
My cousin just had a similar situation. A friend of a friend just had to get rid of her dog asap because she was like 2 months pregnant. The boy isn't neutered, and my cousin has 2 girl dogs. None of them are yorkies. If anything they try to hump him, like others said. He didn't mark at first, but he has been lately after a month of living there. He fits in very well and has even helped one of her girls behave better. She's very happy she took him and he's much better off with her. My grandmom has had 2 male yorkies who weren't neutered. One never marked and the other was terrible. I'd probably take him and if it doesn't work out, find a good home for him. |
PLEASE Do What You Can I would take him. Have him checked out by your Vet, before bringing him into your home if you have the slightest worry about his health. Have him neutered and take a wait and see attitude. I would find a good family for him. Because I have 5 Yorkies of my own. We often buy Yorkies and foster them until we find a good home for them. It is perfectly fine to place him with a good Yorkie rescue if you can't afford, or don't want another dog. Like you I can't stand to see a Yorkie just passed around or given to a Greeder or dog pound ! |
Take him |
Take him if you can. I would if I could. |
I would take him. If he does not work out, after he is neutered, you could screen for the perfect family or surrender him to a rescue. Both are better than him going to a greeder. |
Jasper is almost 6 months old the only male. We have 2 other females dogs. They are not yorkies, but still spayed females. Jasper does not hump nor does he raise his leg to pee or mark. He will be neutered at the end of the month. Please, please take this baby. There is a reason that this opportunity was laid upon you. If it doesn't work, then place him with a rebutable yorkie rescue. I'm praying for you and this little boy as you make your decision. |
Hello Everyone, I want to thank you for responding to my message. Each has voiced the same opinion I have had. Bring him home and see how it works out. If it doesn't work out at least I will know he will go to a good home. Funny my husband has said the same thing to. So that is what I am gonna do. I text my niece and asked her to notify the girl to hold him, she said no problem the lady will. Thanks so much I will let you know how it goes next week. |

That's awesome!! |
I would not trade my boy Keno for all the world, best little dog I have ever had. Easy to house train and no problems with humping anything ever. He does have a little yorkie girl friend who tries to hump him, it really is funny, she is 6 lbs and he is 16 lbs. |
2 females will often accept a male fairly easily. My kids are so used to others coming and going, they accept anything! He should be neutered before being placed in his new home....to be sure isn't being taken for breeding purposes. As a breeder, and a rescuer and fostermom, I have spayed and unspayed females and neutered and unneutered males. My boys are pretty good about using the pee pads....but they are trained very early in my home. My girls are all 98%+. Hey, you have dogs, you have pee. If you aren't sure, maybe you could foster him until a permanent home is found. If you need it, I'm happy to help. |
I would take him..The fact that he has been on your heart it is meant to be:) |
Let us know when you get back |
Good for you!:) One thing though, I'm not sure if this has been said yet, but please wait until he is settled into the new home before neutering. Neutering him right away and then bringing him into a new environment could traumatize the poor thing, neutering is stressful as it is. I have no doubt you know what your doing and that everything will go great, I just wanted to give that little piece of advice in the hopes that it will help:) |
We didn't get Laddy neutered until after we got Kyra. He was 3 years old and never humped or marked in the house. Since being fixed he now seldom even raises his leg outside. I am so glad you are going to take this little guy and do what is best for him. Careful though boys are lovebugs and you will probably end up keeping him :). |
I am not worried if there is a accident or two in the house. I do have two little dogs and my Hanna is a senior and has them now and again. I will re-shampoo the carpet before I go get him. I am feeling much better about this decision after hearing from you guys. Thanks for your support. I will let you know how things are going and probably asking a dozen questions. Glad to hear about all the "good" boys out there. LOL |
Just get him neutered. I have 2 boys and they have never humped anything, but one marks, even after being neutered. Not sure if these habits just depend on the boy. If he's a marker you can always put a belly band on when he's in the house. Boys are super super sweet, I just adore my boys! I can't imagine having a girl! LOL |
Oh good for you for taking the little guy. I know we all want to see a picture of him when you get him home! Wish I could have more...DH won't let me! |
