I think that a yorkie is a yorkie, some are smaller then others and some are bigger.....Dollar is pretty small right now. I dont know if he will get bigger. |
Don't forget the elusive TOY Yorkie. :) If someone asked me if I knew how to find a Toy or Teacup - I think I'd have to direct them to the nearest Walmart. They have a huge housewares section and pretty good toy section ;) |

Although I hate confrontation, Ive nicely told people that there is no such thing and warn them of the dangers of wanting such a small small dog. |
I think( most )people enquiring about a Toy Yorkies are referring to the classification used by many breeders and kennel clubs Including the Canadian Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club:aimeeyork |
i'm constantly being asked by strangers if bunjee is a "teacup", a "toy" or a "mini" yorkie. i merely smile and reply "he's a puppy" or "he's just a baby". although that question is starting to become one of my pet peeves, second to "how much was he?" it cracks me up tho when some ask how big he'll be, and when i reply "about 7 to 8 lbs", the response is "oh, he's going to be a [i]big[/b] boy". who would have thunk... a 7lb dog is "a BIG boy" |
I have to admit...before we got Monkey, we shopped around for an entire year for the right puppy. We knew we wanted a small one. We were totally stupid. From looking up info on Yorkies, you would honestly think that there were different types. WE were one of the crazy people calling and asking for the "teacup" yorkie. We just didn't know any better. We finally got the chance to speak to some good breeders during our research and realized that there was no such thing as "teacup" or any of the other "slang" they use for selling pups at a higher price. It's so funny. I am giving one of my babies to my Mom and Dad. My mom emailed me to ask if they were "teacup" or "toy". I went into this WHOLE THING about how its.......well, you all know the rest. I told her they all fit in teacups as puppies. She wrote me back and told me I sounded like an angry breeder...LOL!! Some people are just not educated on the things that we know. You can't be angry at everyone for not knowing these things. If it weren't for the nice informative breeders that I spoke to, I still may not know. I appreciated their helpful information and I felt much smarter and informed about the breed when some a-hole tried to tell me that they were the smallest and most demanded type of the breed (explaining their prices of course). However, like the instance with my mom, I still get annoyed!! The info I throw out there is like word vomit!! I can understand. All I can say to the experienced breeders out there...I know it's hard and takes a lot of patience, but just as you try you best to improve the breed, try to expand the education of it as well. Everyone has to start somewhere!! ;) |
i agree it is very annoying when people ask WHAT yorkie i have i just say a YORKSHIRE TERRIER why? what other type are there, im sure they think its me thats stupid |

I am getting such a kick out of what people are calling yorkies, the differance in weight between my male and female is 14oz,yet people will come up and ask me why I got a teacup for a female and a regular for my male..now I just say she is the toaster oven size and he is the microwave size..you should see the look on thier faces untill they realise I am joking with them, then I explain that there is no differance..that a standard yorkie of anysize must meat the akc standard..that puts an end to most discussions |

That makes me crazy! Or how about people will say things like - "I like that one better than that one" - how rude! Imagine telling someone that one of her children is much cuter than the other! |
Fujnny you said that Jessica - when I was looking for Cheri - there were 4 adorable little babies climbing all over me - I kept holding them ALL and whining ....I can't choooooose !!! The way Cheri got her name is that she actually picked ME..... We named her Cherish - but Cheri for short cause she was SO SWEET I just HAD to pick her ! |

Oh Jessica - it's a great memory sitting on the floor with 4 cuties all over me...Cheri was the most persistant and kept climbing up into my arms over and over.... and she just made it known that I should choose her - but it sure was HARD cause they are all just so adorable ! She STILL is the little baby who loves to be held. |
