I use Banfield and have their wellness plan, the vet in Petsmart. I know, I've heard the horror stories but they are amazing with my animals. It is a smaller town so maybe that makes a difference but my Lilly was spayed there and did great and they check on both my fur kids the day after they've had vaccinations. Cheap too.. $29.95 a month for Lilly for a year and $19.95 a month for Sophie, my cat, as she is a second animal. Spaying for Lilly was included in that and Sophie's dental cleaning is included in hers.

poor things, I think Tufty and I have the same issues with present allergens, I bought aromatherapy oils to burn through the night while we sleep, myrrh, eucalyptus and peppermint and it has helped a lot, I also run the humidifier with tea tree oil in it as my apartment is very dry.

Jaqui I'm going to Heronview to speak to Lori about the product she makes for fleas and mozzies with neem oil, I had my first issue with fleas last year for one month in October and I was not pleased at all. My vet said last year was brutal for them

That seems a very good deal at Banfield, especially as you have great vet service. This is for wellness, what else does it cover, meds, accidents, knee or other surgery? I am sure that would be an extra policy.
One word of caution with insurance. When I adopted my boy, I took him to a vaccine clinic for a rabies shot. A vet there examines the dog prior and she put on the form, "needs dental" as part of the exam. I thought nothing of it and just had the dental cleaning done. Two years later I get another cleaning, but the insurance said it was preexisting due the the earlier statement when I did rabies.
It did not matter as dentals are excluded anyway, but it was scary. I thought dentals were not conditions! So be careful what vets put in records prior to getting insurance!

Oh the wellness plan is just that, for wellness, but in my case it's much easier for me to pay a monthly payment than it is to try to come up with the full amount of a spay or a dental cleaning at once. All their wellness plans seem to include one surgery, whether it's a spay or a dental cleaning as they get older and their vaccinations plus office visits, no matter if it's an illness or just the shots you're coming in for. Worm tests are included too, including testing for heartworm once a year. Anything that's just preventative, except you have to pay for meds, heartworm, flea and tick, etc.

Thank you, it still sounds a very good deal as it covers a lot. Certainly better than the large outlays for the dentals etc. I know, I have just done the dentals and my insurance does not cover it!!

OMG! That's terrible. My Vet specifically explains all the shots he's giving & why. He specifically tells me he's not giving Bordatella (unless I'm travelling & Lucy would be kennelled or something.)

I think you should definitely try to get your money back & find another vet. Being part of a large group is probably more convenient because you can get quick appointments, but my vet wil always see Lucy immediately in case of emergency.

Prices can vary a lot according to what region you are in and what kind of facility you go to. Some vets try to attract a more "upscale" clientele and spend a lot on the way their clinic looks as well as their equipment. The price of what you are having done gets jacked up accordingly.

I live in a less populated area in central NY. The prices are pretty reasonable but I can drive just a few miles in any direction and find places that are much more expensive. Less populated areas tend not to be as expensive, probably because they have to be more competitive to get more customers.

It is a good idea to have in mind exactly what you want to have checked out when you take your pets in for a check up as well as what you know you need as far as immunizations and supplies. Most clinics have a listing of their prices for each service they render. You can call in advance and ask them to quote you their prices as far as their immunizations, tests, office fees and such. If you think their prices are too high then call around and compare. Every dollar counts these days. You have a right to make an informed decision before you get in the office and are faced with a big bill.
