Well but you did knowingly bring in a female pup with an un-neutered male. And truly as you do know about how quickly matings can happen, and how to prevent said matings. Have you not yet trained your dogs to crates? Some other solution perhaps? Of course you would with your experience have thought of this, and how to handle this, if you wanted to keep both dogs intact. Quite frankly there is no excuse. Your dogs should be trained for crates, and or you should have already schooled the dogs to what-ever plan you had to keep your female safe while she is in heat. Separate rooms what-ever. Hoping and praying this female does not get pregnant when she is still a puppy herself. |
Hi there, I am by no means an expert, not a breeder nor a biologist, but yes I would be concerned that an intact male was freely around to sniff a young bitch who if she is not already in heat will be at any time soon. Boys will be boys. You have had experience of puppy litters, did boys sniffing girls play a part in the conception? I am starting to get worried about my baby boy, he is not neutered yet and is generally either in the house, in a secure back garden or on a strong leash when outside (with me or my husband at all times) though he does get off for a good ball chasing run in our local park most days. Dogs will scent a bitch in heat a mile off and have accomplished unbelievable feats to get to them, if a readily available female is in the same house, I would bet you will have a pregnant little baby girl on your hands soon if she is not already so. Good luck, I hope they haven't tied yet and you are able to completely separate them. |
My origanal question was should I be concerned, as I have not seen any other physical signs of her going into season. Opening up this type of conversation was not where I was going. I do have a plan. |
You have your answer. She will probably shortly go into season. Full males do telegraph when they can smell the hormonal changes that presage the season. I am cautious better to be safe than sorry. Separate now. |
Thank you, thats what I was wondering about. I am really sorry that I upset / angered anyone on here. I seriuosly just asking a simple question. I just did not expect the reaction I got. So I do apologise once again. For the record, Abby and I have taken up residence in the granny flatlet away from all the males in the house! |
