Monty is a much better behaved dog all the way around. We do the same as you, reward him when he stops and always give the 'No Bark!' command as we sound the alarm (LOL) and then he gets the 'Good boy, no bark' when he responds. He also comes right to us as soon as we spray the Pet Corrector which is a bonus. Can't thank you enough for this discovery as he was starting to become a neighborhood nuisance even though we never left him outside on his own for any period of time. |
Is this like the compressed air or is it an air horn? I have never seen it or heard of it. My two are both barkers and nothing has worked. I am interested in trying this product. |
It is compressed air, you just give it a short blast AWAY from the dog and BAM it seems to totally shut them down from barking!! |
Ive been using a can of compressed air sense I first read this thread. The two poodles already knew that they werent supposed to bark so they have it. The chi will run to the den and bark from there instead,,little chicken that he is. Mina our yorkie will back away, look me straight in the eye and bark again. I actually followed her around the house the other day,she barked I sprayed, three or four times. She finally got it and walked off grumbling. There is less barking when DH or DD come home from work, but Mina is a piece of work. We will see how well this does or does not work come Sunday when 25 people arrive. Its kinda weird spraying the can when guests arrive, but they already think that I am a crazy dog lady with Mina's clothes and bows so I guess it doesnt matter. |
I wonder about using this method, as it seems it's fear based rather than positive reinforcement. Toto is a crazy barker. And he doesn't stop. Uni will bark but eventually stops and huffs. But we have an air compressor at work that we use to play with her sometimes (shoot air at her) so I doubt that would work to make her stop barking, she thinks that's play time! |

I do think it depends on the dogs personality. Haley, my shy girl, reacted as though she was frightened initially. So, rather than reinforce her fear, I made sure she was not close by when I used it around Miss P. I set up the situations. Had my grandson knock, after Haley was upstairs. Haley honestly only took one short burst of the can and she hasn't done her annoying bark again. She now comes to the door all happy, but with no barking. P still yips, but stops with correction. Both get rewarded by the "guest" at the door with yummy beef treats and ear rubs. It's surprising how willing they are to learn. |
Pet Corrector I ordered 2 cans from Jeffers.com. I have 6 dogs and it can get pretty loud at times. The noise level has gone down considerably. I just pick up the can and they start behaving immediately. I was in the kitchen and they all started barking, I showed them a can of Pam and they all stopped barking. I have several cats that fight at night, I am putting a can on my night stand to stop this once and for all. This product has made my house with 6 dogs so much nicer. One of my yorkies can be timid, but he also was one of the main barkers - but the noise did not scare my dogs, just got their attention. |
I tried the bark corrector spray - my guys just came over to me and barked at the can when I sprayed it. They also bark at thunder and fireworks, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. :D |

I was using pet corrector as well. It was working but just like many, with the windows open and ppl going up and down the street and all the outside noise, Wallee has also turned back into a barking lunatic. Guess I better go find the red "can" again..lol...One look at that and he knows I mean business. He is terrible in the yard barking at birds and even on our front porch he barks at the birds. hehehe...He goes nuts at the big black starlings and we don't usually say much, but he knows we tell him enough when we have cardinals and gold finches there so he will stand and mumble to himself..lol |
Shucks, this won't work for my guys (esp Turbo & Princess), they bark @ air compressors loll! Or any bottle, hair spray, containers. They insist on smelling it 1st, like I need permission to hold it. |

Great to hear about another weapon for barking control. Some of you might remember the long thread about another bark stopper: the Dog Repeller, which worked for many, including me. I wonder if anybody still uses it? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-repeller.html |
is this pretty much the same concept as the pennies in a can? That did not work at all for Molli so I wonder if this would be any different. |
