Blonde yorkie Hi, I have a blonde yorkie. I wanted to meet other yorkie lovers. I live in central Texas and I would like to ask why AKC does not recognize the color yorkies for show and if a registry out there does? Ivy |
Welcome to YT! I can't answer your question, but there's a ton of people on here who can. Look through the breeder section or the section about showing yorkies. There might be some info about color yorkies there. Post a picture of your pup when you can. I'd love to see her. Him. :) |
Hi and welcome to YT! I also can't answer your question but I think my Princess Sophie may become a blond yorkie. I have to wait till she's done changing colors though to be sure. Hope you enjoy your time with us and we are glad you decided to join! Again, welcome and please...pictures....please!! |
What do you consider a Blonde Yorkie. I've never seen a pup as a blonde only one that with age has lost their color and became mostly cream color. Do you have any pictures to share? |
Because it is considered a fault. AKC is the only reputable registry in the US so not sure why you would want to find another registry. |

I do. These are just a few of my born blonde yorkies. The pic with the litter has Mom, traditionals, and two blonde girls. |
I just lost my 11 year old blonde yorkie girl. |

Are they also called Golden Yorkies? I've seen those referred to before, along with chocolate yorkies. |
I've always called my Dolly blond but she was born dark. Is she still a "blond yorkie"? I get so many compliments on her shiny floor length hair. I think it's beautiful. |
Yes they are called golden. |
Wow, my Adie is so pretty and she is a blond. I didn't know that she was inferior! :p |

She is not inferior. Just like partis arent inferior. I have traditionals, partis, and goldens, and find no difference whatsoever in the dogs. As a matter of fact a couple of my partis are much more subdued and relaxed than some traditionals I have had. The goldens and partis can be cotton coated too, just like traditionals. |
they are beautiful puppies!! love the blonde she is unique:) |
Let me see if I can clear this up a little. This was told to me by an AKC rep at a show. AKC does not prevent the non standard colored yorkies from being shown in the ring neither does the YTCA. It is a diqualification and it is up to the judge to decide. But if a non standard Yorkie was to be shown and disqualified or any Yorkie for that matter 3 times then it would not be eligible to be shown. |
Showing Off Color Yorkies I have never shown and have no interest in showing even though one of my girls came from a show breeder (parents both were being shown). I know there are others who are interested in showing goldens and especially partis and I have been told that there are plans for an independent club. I wish them luck but it isnt for me. |

Did I sound sarcastic? I didn't mean to. I was just teasing. |

I love the Blonds/Goldens i use to raise a few...AKC let me register them as TAN |
The breed standard calls for a certain color coat. The Yorkie is supposed to be a dog with a solid color body and lighter colors on the limbs. I have seen gold or "blonde" Yorkies and they are beautiful but they are not what the standard calls for. One of the reasons for a breed standard is to help to maintain the original characteristics of the breed. Usually those who show their dogs in AKC competitions are pretty careful in trying to meet those standards. There are other registries available in the US but none of them are involved in maintaining accurate records or in trying to maintain the breed purity. |

She is definitely blonde I just adopted her and she is 2 and a half years old. AKC registration is as good as the breeder I have seen many AKC dogs that were very poor quality of their breed. AKC pretty much does not prevent the showing of the color yorkies maybe but I haven't seen one shown that ever won confirmation. If other registry's accept color yorkies to be shown that is why they would br regestered to another registry. I would post a picture I don't know how to post the picture. |
Thats a shame, that the others don't breed to a standard purity or keep accurate records. I was assuming a registry woul have a standard and records if they show. I understand wanting the breed to a standard but since parti's and blondes are yorkie's if they met confirmation standard I think they should be shown just like the cocker spaniels recognize different colors JMHO. I'm fine with my pet. She is definitely blonde with the parti gene. |
This is directly from the AKC site for breed standard. Colors Puppies are born black and tan and are normally darker in body color, showing an intermingling of black hair in the tan until they are matured. Color of hair on body and richness of tan on head and legs are of prime importance in adult dogs, to which the following color requirements apply: Blue: Is a dark steel-blue, not a silver-blue and not mingled with fawn, bronzy or black hairs. Tan: All tan hair is darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to still lighter tan at the tips. There should be no sooty or black hair intermingled with any of the tan. Color on Body The blue extends over the body from back of neck to root of tail. Hair on tail is a darker blue, especially at end of tail. Headfall A rich golden tan, deeper in color at sides of head, at ear roots and on the muzzle, with ears a deep rich tan. Tan color should not extend down on back of neck. Chest and Legs A bright, rich tan, not extending above the elbow on the forelegs nor above the stifle on the hind legs. Disqualifications: Any solid color or combination of colors other than blue and tan as described above. Any white markings other than a small white spot on the forechest that does not exceed 1 inch at its longest dimension. |
If a dog is registered with AKC they are allowed to register to be in a show. Obviously no one knows what the dog really looks like until it shows up in the ring. That is when a dog with a color fault would most likely be disqualified. AKC only allows the dogs to be registered in certain color categories. Since the Yorkie is supposed to be a two toned dog "golden" is not one of the options for registration. |
Julia so very sorry for your loss. I didn't know about it. :( You know how much I love your babies ! Hugs |
The goldens are listed as tan on AKC Certificates. It isnt listed as one of the choices but once you send in 3 pictures of the dogs, your certificate comes back noting them as tan. |
2 Attachment(s) Just wanted to share a couple photos of my blondie, Dolly. She was born dark. The first was taken when she was about 2, the second is current, at 9 years old. Would this be called golden? Seems lighter than that to me. |
