Teddy's been sleeping in the bed with me since I got him. The first night he slept with me I was so worried about rolling over on him, that I barely slept. Then after I quit worrying about rollling over him, I had to worry about getting up and taking him to his wee wee pad if I heard him get up. Needless to say I didn't hear him everytime he woke up at 3:00a.m., so he had a lot of accidents on the bed. I was constantly washing sheets, comforter, cleaning the mattress. Just when I was about to give up and start putting Teddy in his Play Pen while I slept I found some Pet Stairs online. I was soo excited when I got them in the mail. I just knew this would resolve the problem. I figured he was needing to pee, but was to scared to jump off the bed, so he would just go to the end of the bed and pee there. I got the stairs in the mail, and of course he was scared of them. So after I finally got him used to going up and down the stairs, he still didn't use them. I think it took 2 weeks after I got him the stairs, for him to use them and go potty on his wee wee pads. His early puppy days were very furstrating, but I love him sooo much I would do it all over again. :) |

Bouncer was crate trained when I first brought him home and as soon as he learned the ways of the household, I let him start sleeping in the bed with me. I don't fear rolling over on him b/c if I make the slightest move he's alert and ready to moveif I do in my sleep. He usually starts out curled in the curve of my tummy, then sometime throughout the night moves to one of the pillows on my bed near my head and that's where I typically find him in the morning. |
Susan started sleeping in the bed because my husband was afraid she'd get cold. Her spot is right between the pillows which is nice because we don't have to worry about kicking, pushing or rolling on her. If she gets cold she burrows down under the covers and sticks her head out the top like a person. If she's too warm to stay between the pillows she sleeps on my pillow beside my head. This is all very convenient for her because when she wants to get up and go outside, all she has to do is open her mouth and start licking me awake. |

Maybe I'll line up a bunch of potty pads under the fitted sheet. That should keep anything from soaking through to the mattress! :D |
Cassie has slept with me ever since we had an accident, and I was having to keep my eye on her all night to make sure she was alright. Since then she has slept in my bed about the age of 4 months. I was training her to go on the pee pads. So being as how my bed was quite high ,and I did not want her to jump off I put the two pillows down one on top of the other that had the shams on them when I was making the bed up. They had extra stuffing in them to make them very full. I then put her pee pad down in the bottom of a box that I had cut down to about an inch on the sides and I put a piece of plastic under it so that it covered about 8" around the box. Bedroom is all in wall to wall carpeting. At the first she would go pee on the pad but seemed to want to do her poop on the outside of the box where I put the plastic. Now no problem when she has to go she just jumps down goes in the box now for both and jumps back up. If I am awake and she checks to see if I am I usually give her a treat. I put my housecoat on bed and she curls up in my arms and I gather housecoat around her so she feels cuddled in. When I move she moves too and gets comfortable again. Luv having that feeling she brings me. |

My pup has slept with me starting the first night I had him. Every pet I have ever owned (cats/dogs) has slept with me. My Yorkie - from the get-go- slept six or seven hours and then started licking my face --at which time I took him to his pee pad and he usually went. I have a low hopechest type piece of furniture at the end of my bed. He jumps easily onto that and then down to the floor. He comes up that way too (since he was 8 or 9 weeks old). I don't, but you can protect your mattess by using a body potty belt or diaper. Or - put a plastic sheet between your sheet and the mattress. Carol Jean |
My whole gang sleeps in the bedroom with me but not all on my bed but it is their choice where they sleep. I have 1 that sleeps on my chest, 1 on the pillow by my head, one under each arm and one between my legs - I am sure they made this pack so I do not move all night :D 2 sleep on the other side of the queen bed, one sleeps on the overstuffed chair by the bed, one loves sleeping under the bed, one sleeps on the pet bed by the side of the bed and most all of us snore at night. Even if I make the mistake and try to turn over on my side I am informed They (the royal family) are not happy. :p I love sleeping with my gang! |
My chester guy has slept with me the first day I brought him home, he was 8 wks old, he would cuddle up around my neck, now since he is older he sleeps under the covers or on top by my legs, and he has to be touching me, I have never worried about squishing him. |
