Pet Insurance
 
Does anyone have pet insurance? My mom really wants me to get it for Miley but is it worth it? What company do you have?

We have pet insurance. If you search there are several threads. I have Embrace for my girls.

I chose $500 deductible with $15000 per year cap and 90% reimbursement.

I pay around $60 a month for my two dogs total.

:) I did this thread a few months ago, it may help. Lots of good advice was given on insurance and other ways to cover illnesses.

I ended up getting trupanion because they cover hereditary problems. If your going to get insurance- get it soon as possible. Once she gets sick, they consider it pre existing and won't cover it.

could you explain how it works? Sorry being 21 I've never really had to deal with insurance before. My mom willingly pays my car insurance and I'm still on her dental, vision, medical, etc.

Lets say Miley needs something that costs $2000. Do I pay the $2000 then get reimbursed? how does this work?

Yes you would pay the 2K minus the deductible ( mine is $500 but many are $100 ~ I chose to pay less per month)

I will look into that thread!! Do you mind explaining how it works? like if she gets sick and needs something that costs like $2000 do I pay the $2000?

once that amount is paid (it's usually a one time thing per year) they pay a percentage that you chose. I chose to have them pay 90%

Okay, so I just pay a annual fee then and then the remaining 10%?

yes on covered services. Most dont cover routine items like bloodwork and fecals and well exams and vaccines. More "sick" visits.

The AKC insurance covers spaying, and other good stuff. Did you look into this one? just curious as to what sold you on trupanion :)

I don't have trupanion. I have Embrace. Curri and Sugar are already spayed and I'm vaccinating less and less....we don't require as much preventative care ~ at least none on the expensive side.

We have Healthy Paws Covers hereditary and no cap.

I looked into that too. Sugar was too old at 6 years old :mad::thumbdown

edit a lot of conditions were no longer covered :eek:

Trupanion covers hereditary stuff. You have to pay the cost in full, but they reimburse you 90% . With a lot of yorkies ending up hereditary problems, I wanted to be covered if mine got any.(I'm sure Cinders was from a BYB. Who knows what problems are going to come up with her.) I haven't had to use it yet, so I'm hoping others that have will post.
