Pet Insurance Does anyone have pet insurance? My mom really wants me to get it for Miley but is it worth it? What company do you have? |
We have pet insurance. If you search there are several threads. I have Embrace for my girls. I chose $500 deductible with $15000 per year cap and 90% reimbursement. I pay around $60 a month for my two dogs total. |
:) I did this thread a few months ago, it may help. Lots of good advice was given on insurance and other ways to cover illnesses. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ce-yes-no.html I ended up getting trupanion because they cover hereditary problems. If your going to get insurance- get it soon as possible. Once she gets sick, they consider it pre existing and won't cover it. |

Lets say Miley needs something that costs $2000. Do I pay the $2000 then get reimbursed? how does this work? |

once that amount is paid (it's usually a one time thing per year) they pay a percentage that you chose. I chose to have them pay 90% |

edit a lot of conditions were no longer covered  |
Trupanion covers hereditary stuff. You have to pay the cost in full, but they reimburse you 90% . With a lot of yorkies ending up hereditary problems, I wanted to be covered if mine got any.(I'm sure Cinders was from a BYB. Who knows what problems are going to come up with her.) I haven't had to use it yet, so I'm hoping others that have will post. |

This is a wonderful article written by a veterinarian when she was looking for insurance for her own pup. Make 2010 The Year Of Affordable Pet Health Care! |

Each insurance has different things they offer. Look a few over, compare them to see what you like. Choose the best one for you. Just do it as soon as possible. Like I said, once she's treated for something, it's considered pre existing, and any insurance company won't cover a pre existing illness. I realize I'm no help- I haven't used mine yet, and I don't want you to think mines the best when others could be better. I looked at 3 or 4 companies before I decided on 1 that seemed to fit and would cover what I wanted. Cinders is a BYB pup- I'm sure of it since learning about them here on YT. I wanted to find one that covered poor breeding (hereditary problems, such as LP) so I went with Trupanion. |

Insurance I have Trupanion with zero deductible, but it cost more for that. I pay the vet bill and usually get paid long before my credit card has to be paid. So no big deal. They pay 90 percent of allowable charges, no cap. I had only had my adopted boy for a few months and he had to have cataract surgery! $3,500 per eye, plus quite a few charges for drops and illnesses resulting from the surgery. So I was so glad I had the insurance. It is comforting that if he gets sick I can get all the tests and meds with no funding worries. I am very happy with TP, never any issue with claims and payments. I have heard that Pets Best and Embrace are good too. Have to be careful to compare plans and weigh up the pros and cons. Good Luck, it is hard to research this subject, but worth the effort in my view. |
