Parti Yorkie vs Biewer They look so much alike. I know the parti yorkie has a docked tail while the Biewer has a tail. I really like both.:) |
Parti yorkie is an off color yorkshire terrier that can be AKC registered. Biewer is a breed of its own. It was developed in Germany in the 1980s by Werner Biewer. Biewer breeders take great care in ensuring that their puppies lineage can be traced back direclty to the original German Biewers. However, many breeders try to sell the parti as a Biewer because you can probably get more $$ for the Biewer at this time. It's a controversial issue for sure. Biewer's developed through the pairing of 2 Champion Yorkshire Terriers with a recessive gene. So, some would argue that they're all yorkies. However, others state that the Biewer is a breed unto itself - created by Mr. Biewer's yorkies - that does not have any other yorkies mixed in to it. The personality of the Biewer is said to be gentler and more laid back than the typical yorkie. Also, I think the weight standard can go up to 8 lbs. You'll see some breeders sell both Parti yorkies & Biewers. I would never trust that their Biewer lines were pure back to Germany. I'm new to the Biewer also. I'm getting one in August from Deb of Biewers by the Bay (also in Virginia Beach!)-- who's also a member here. I'll say that any tri-color yorkie or Biewer gets a higher price. They're very very beautiful. Good luck, Tracey |
Hi. I have both a Biewer terrier and a Yorkie, 7 months and 10 months. They have two distinct personalities. My Biewer is 4 pounds (he was charted to be between 3-3.5) and my Yorkie is 3.5 pounds. I call them my diva and my Biewer! He is lovable and a ball of fire, she is a typical Yorkie - stubborn, standoffish and with a mind of her own. I don't want to start any civil wars here, but the Biewer is just more laid back. If you can't make up your mind, do what we did and get one of each :) |
I read somewhere that Biewers carry a gene for "Irish spotting," which is different from the "piebald spotting" gene that Parti's carry. That is why Biewers have a more consistent color than Partis. |
The biewers carry the piebald gene. The should have a pure white belly, breast and front paws with a black band around the middle. The rest of the puppy can have black and white ramdomly but the tip of the tail should be white. The face has three colors, black, white and brown. After researching for weeks and emailing breeders across the country, this seems to be the standard. |
It DOES take a lot of research to understand the difference. AND you'll come across varying opinions - even from the most well-reputed breeders. I'd suggest that if you're interested in a Biewer that you speak directly to the breeder of choice and ask tons of questions. I have a yorkie and I'm looking forward to my Biewer. I'm also looking forward to the "laid back" personality of the Biewer as well. Good luck. Tracey |
I have a biewer, and if hes "laid back" then I couldnt handle a yorkie! LOL Hes really a ball of fun, and wonderful with my children, just has a lot of energy. But hes very smart, and from some of the stories I hear, he was fairly simple to potty train. |
My Sasha is a parti yorkie. Before she was given to me I had never even heard of a parti colored Yorkie. I love her to death, no matter her color :D |

My Jersey is a Biewer...while she is calmer than my two other Yorkies....she is a little she-devil! If there is a disagreement, you can bet your last dime she was the instigator! Love the little heathen to bits, but boy....the energy on this one is amazing!! |
...and how many times have you found the bow or tie from your Yorkie's top-knot in your biewer's mouth? Every time I see my Yorkie with hair hanging in her eyes, I know to look in Bandit's mouth. He has a real fixation with her top-knot. He doesn't have one. With his attitude towards life, he doesn't need one :). They are the original Lady and the Tramp - gave them the wrong names!!!!! |

Yes.. there is and I guess always will be a controversy around the Biewers.. I do think it's funny that those just "new" to the Biewer line feel confident enough to spout facts about them.. Kind of like religion, everyone thinks there's is the ONLY one true and rightful path! Hogwash!! I would advice anyone THINKING about getting a Biewer to do ALOT of research before jumping into this line of yorkies.. it can be a very expensive, heartbreaking proposition, especially to those who "follow blindly" Diana :animal-pa |
