Vet vist today...
 
I took Lola for her 9 week visit today, all is well with her. When I first got her he had suggested I take her back due to open formenal...it is now closed. She weighs 1.7 lbs and everything checked out fine.

I mentioned earlier this week about my yorkie biting a visitor...well, I discussed it with him and was a bit shocked at his response. He told me when Scooby is displaying inappropriate behavior to put him in a closet for 1 hr and extend it to 3 hours if I needed to. He also said for the time being to keep him on a leash and when he acts out to dangle him. Am I crazy??? Or is he? :mad:

I think he is crazy and wouldnt do either of those things he has suggested. I think it is abuse to leave an animal in a closet for 3 hours.

I was dumbstruck! I told my husband, like I was serious, and he let me know I wasn't sticking scooby in a closet....he then turned to scooby in his "Scooby" voice and said she is damn crazy!

Im sorry but I don't recommend that either. I will actually recommend getting a new vet. Im glad thou that Lola had a good Health check up.

:eek: I don't know where in Alabama you are but I would run as fast as I could from that "nut"!! I agree ... that type punishment is abuse!! Are you near Ashland? Our vet in Alabama is there [specializes in this breed] and she has patients who drive from Atlanta to use her!

There are several methods of training to use other than what that vet said! :mad:

:mad: omg.... :mad: :mad: WELL..maybe when he says something like that again to you maybe you outta take your leash put it around his neck and tug on it...stupid sob... :mad: :mad: :mad:

OMG! :eek: Am I reading that correctly??? I'd find a different vet and fast! Lock Scooby in a closet? Dangle him with the leash? Has he not heard of collapsed tracheas??? Oh my!

Ok this vet is NUTS!!!! You don't ever do that to any living thing, I don't care what they do or what type of pet they are!!!!

First off if your pup is young, dangling them (if they wear a collor) can result in collapsed trachea as their bones are still growing and are still soft in spots. and

Second: putting your dog in the closet would make it feel neglected and afraid. what the H$@@ was this dumb @^^ thinking?!!!! sorry for the language but This guy shouldn't be in business. Just my opinion.

I had already said I wouldn't use him again but everyone else was closed and she was rubbing her bottom on the carpet and was worried about worms, which is why I didn't wait. Thank goodness she didn't and my instincts were right about my last visit...so I won't be going back. Our old vet has retired so I am trying to find out about the others here...not sure where Ashland is at, never heard of it.

Is he nuts.. I'm surprised he didn't tell you to pull out his teeth !!! I never heard of such a thing. Needless to say, find another vet.

I sincerely appoligize to you! I didn't understand that this wasn't your regular vet and that Scooby was displaying a problem. I am so sorry for my "knee jerk" reaction when I read his advice about locking poor Scooby in the closet! I know it would absolutely traumatize Toto to treat her that way and would serve no useful purpose as far as teaching her anything! Hopefully you can find a good knowledgeable vet in or near Tuscaloosa. We have a member here who lives at Vance who might know a good one near you. Her name is Courtney [YT name is Hickey007 and her Yorkie baby is Reagan]. You could maybe PM her if you want.

The only time we have had a problem with Toto rubbing her butt on the carpet ... a groomer had used an electric clipper to shave her little butt and it itched. She has never had worms ... just irritation. We clip her with scissors only and that has solved that problem. Hope Scooby will be OK. Please let us know how he is doing? ;)

Or put it around something else ( on the vet)...........and DANGLE him,

I have several small furbabies and my vet and groomer both have said that when they scoot it usually means that there anal glands need to be squeezed then they scoot no more... Sorry about the quack vet I have had one of those with a mobile vet I almost lost my huskie to him needless to say I filed a complaint with the Texas Board of Vets and he no longer practices!!!!!

I was thinking someone like that needed to be in a closet themselves...I didn't think about all those things, quite appropriate. I know I am obsessed with my dogs, glad to see my reaction was appropriate also!

I worked overtime trying to get a pet store closed here, found out we have few laws in Alabama that address cruelty to animals. Not sure a board would do any good here. I did learn that he is more interested in horses, or at least that is what I am told.......

No, I meant open fontanel...got carried away typing. The vet said she had an open fontanel and that I should take her back. It was the size of a pencil lead and is now closed. I did consider taking her back because it sounded terrible but I couldn't find a description of anything that small. Usually referred to as the size of a nickel or penny...so, before deciding I was lucky enough to contact the author of one of the yorkie books that breeds..She was the one that pointed out she would be more worried about the vet giving the vaccinations again since the breeder had given them the night before.

I can't believe a vet would say put a dog in a closet - that would turn any well adjusted dog into a fearful mistrusting sad little baby... and you'd end up with more biting problems -

that is a shame a vet would ever say that to a patient - it sure makes you wonder where he went to vet school and how does he handle other patients ? That's one of the worst things I think I've read as far as vet advise.....A vet should love animals not abuse them. :(

My husband said you must be making this up, and I told him Renee would not do that, this is real, and he freaked!

Someone should report this idiot vet!! :mad:
