So I just picked up my baby Leilani last Sunday!

I was just wondering if a puppy could be too plump? Shes 12 weeks now and weighed in at 2lb 4oz on May 10th. Her stature is small (small legs and head), but shes just so round in the midsection. Does this pudge go away as she ages or is she being overfed?

Looks absolutely normal and gorgeous to me. My Canyon weighed 2 lbs 2 oz at 13 weeks and he looked just like that. So sweet.

I think that's normal, but be sure to have her examined at the vet (if you haven't yet), and take in a fresh fecal sample to test for worms...

Thanks so much! She's scheduled to go in on Monday :). The breeder took her on May 10th for her first set of shots and a checkup.

I'm glad! The breeder told me she nursed a little longer than her sister so that could be a reason why she is so round.

Have her checked by a vet - for worms if she's seeming too round in the belly.

With that said - no such thing as an overweight puppy, imo :)

cute cute cute!!! congrats on your new puppy and I don't think she is too fat maybe she is just going to be a little bigger than the standard yorkie. Like a teapot Yorkie:)

Yeahhh ... I would guess worms too. /-: You have to really persevere when it comes to worming puppies! :-P

AWWW she sure is cute. I would most certainly take her to the Vet with a Fecal sample to test for worms.

Most times (not all) puppies who have that round belly have worms.

Worms?? That would explain an distended abdomen.... I'll be sure to take a fecal sample in on Monday!
Her breeder took her in a couple of weeks ago and basically told me all was well, and she wasn't really growing... just outward so her weight couldnt really be a predictor of her size.

That is actually one thing I love about puppies. I just LOVE those fat puppy bellies (especially right after they eat).:dogzzz:

Apparently my "quote reply" isn't exactly functional.....sorry

I never really considered worms..... Thank goodness she's seeing the vet on Monday morning!

The breeder told me she would stay small, but her weight may not be reflective of that since she's so round in the middle. She also said she nursed a little longer than her siblings so that could also be a culprit... It's weird, she's tiny minus her little fluff!

I just wanted to make sure she looked normal... I'll be sure to bring in the
fecal sample!

oh! and Miley was weighed today and weighed in at 2 lbs 4 oz as well and she just turned 12 weeks yesterday. :p

It wouldn't hurt to find out when the breeder last wormed the little pup, I wormed Molly's pups every 2 weeks, then it drops to 4 weekly after they are 12 weeks old, found using the syrup easier when they are that small. She's really cute, would rather see a happy puppy eating well

When I looked at her records, she received dewormer on 5/10 as well as her first vaccination.

I have such a belly fetish with these girl babies. kiss kiss kiss. :D She is just so beautiful and looks very healthy, but still needs her check-up with a Vet. and be sure to take in a fecal sample. You can pick up the plastic container at the Vet. when you make her appointment. ;)

That's what Sam weighed at 12 weeks. At 7 months, he's 4 pounds even, but skinny as a stick and long legged. His sister Piper is 3.3 pounds, and she has the pudgy belly and short legs.

I love the pic of the round belly. Honestly, to me it doesn't really look like worm bloat. But still a good idea to have the vet check.

Thanks so much! I feel soo much better now :) She really is a sweet puppy.

Congratulations, she is adorable!

I don't know anything about worms, but my puppy weighed about the same amount at 12 weeks.

Such a cutie. I would check for worms too also what food was she eating. If it is not great food it can also give the pup lots of gas

Your puppy is absolutely adorable!

My little "Doc" has a puppy belly too. His belly is soft and cuddly like a lab puppy belly but he doesn't have worms, he just loves to eat! He's 21 months old and weighs 3lbs. 4oz., but he doesn't look like it. If he didn't have a jelly belly he wouldn't even weigh 3lbs!

I free feed and he finishes off the girls food, so I tried feeding them separately, but nobody will eat. I'm just not going to worry about it, but now that the weather is nice he's getting more exercise so maybe that will help. ;)
